It’s that time of year again folks! Go Cats!

Virtually no “expert” has Kentucky getting by UNC or UCLA in the South.

    • Realme
      10:07 am March 13, 2017 Permalink

A lot of those experts were bizarrely advocating Duke as a 1 seed, so no reason to take them seriously.

    • Laker Cat 18
      10:10 am March 13, 2017 Permalink

UNC was my favorite to win a week ago, then Duke beat them. No way do I think Duke should have been a #1 seed. However, I do think they have a serious run in them to make the Final Four. They seem to be peaking at the right time.

  3. runningunnin.454
    10:09 am March 13, 2017 Permalink

So Duke is the new favorite to win the title? Why, because the refs sit Joel Berry on the bench with less than 5 minutes gone in the 2nd half…and ole Roy left him there way too long.
I don’t see them surviving the East Region…SMU is not a bad team, and Baylor, while streaky, poses a lot of match up problems for Duke. And, I don’t think Duke can beat Villanova.

The hotels rooms in Indy are exorbitantly priced. Even so, I had to go through three before a fourth finally had any rooms available, they were going like hotcakes.

    • J-Dub, just sleep in your car like me and a buddy did at the Sugar Bowl years ago. Of course, we were stupid 21 year olds at the time. LOL!

Lol, I am way too old for that.

  5. Busy today, but wanted to stop by with just a few random thoughts:

*How could we have loved Dom any more? But we do now! We need another defensive stopper like him going forward. Just ask Stauskas (sp?), Russ Smith and anyone he guarded in the SEC tourney.
*How solid is Fox with the ball in his hands these days at crunch time? I loved how Sunday Morning Sports Talk used “Fox on the Run” as a bumper song yesterday morning.
    *Bam has become, well, BAM!

I try not to wish my life away, but I can’t wait until Friday (Thursday too for that matter)! C-A-T-S CATS CATS CATS!!!

So happy for Dom. He played like an animal and was deservedly recognized. He and Derek playing like we NEED them in the past few weeks, instead of playing like they want to perform well enough to stay in the game, is going to be key to the rest of our season.

3 brackets here (so far, and yes i have a problem):

      1) Duke Losing to UK with Arizona and Louisillve
      2) Duke Losing to UNC with Arizona and Kansas (UK E8)
      3) UNC Losing to Duke with Louisville and Arizona (UK S16) – This scenario made me want to vomit

RG454 – You’re right, I forgot about that. On that note, I don’t think Kansas makes it. I may even take Iowa State to come out of there.

    • runningunnin.454

Is it crazy to think where Northwestern and Vandy would stack up in Gonzaga’s conference? I would guess they’d both be top 2-4 teams in the WCC. Dangerous 2nd round game for the Zags.

    • J-Dub421
      10:26 am March 13, 2017 Permalink

Vandy has the potential to be a nightmare matchup for a team like Gonzaga, but they also have a history of choking in the tournament, so I’m reluctant to believe in Vandy. (They have burned me too many times in my brackets in the past.)

    • Laker Cat 18
      10:31 am March 13, 2017 Permalink

Very true. I wouldn’t believe in them with Stallings. Drew may lead me to think differently when I fill out my bracket.

UK and UNC should have reversed positions in the South bracket. UK beat UNC on a neutral site, has a current 11 game winning streak, and has a better record than UNC. UK should have been rewarded with the #1 seed for their strong finish and UNC should have been taken down a notch to a #2 seed.

    • ukjaybrat
      10:28 am March 13, 2017 Permalink

i agree, but the ncaa absolutely loves the acc and everything about it. so winning the conference is good enough for a 1 seed and winning the tournament is good enough for a 2. even though neither REALLY deserves it

  10. RealCatsFan

Been out of the loop the past few days – thur/fri was all about installing hardwood floors to complete a honey-do project, and spent all day Sat/Sun at the KFEC for a huge volleyball tournament with my daughters. Went to the finals and lost to yet another team of kids who were apparently supplemented with human growth hormones by their parents. Always the bridesmaid…

Did get home in time to watch the Cats on DVR. Our defense is looking a LOT better – much more active and disruptive. If Cal breaks out that press combined with the way they are playing half court defense, I think they will be a tough out in the tourney.

  11. runningunnin.454
    10:32 am March 13, 2017 Permalink

The NCAA bought Gonzaga’s record; but, they should have been our 3 seed and UCLA should have stayed in the West.

    • Laker Cat 18
      10:35 am March 13, 2017 Permalink

At the minimum, Arizona and Gonzaga should have been flipped. Doesn’t help us either way, just my thoughts.

    • ukjaybrat
      10:39 am March 13, 2017 Permalink

if the argument is that gonzaga doesn’t warrant a 1 seed, then uk should be because they were 5th overall. and that would have made me happy to be a 1 seed in the west. hell i would trade spots with vandy right now., give me their 9 seed and we will destroy every other team in that bracket and meet duke in the final four. instead we have to play NKU, WSU (way underseeded), UCLA (already beat us), and UNC. and that’s before we even get to the final four.

    • runningunnin.454
      10:43 am March 13, 2017 Permalink

As Matt said, the West is always the weakest Region; and, I just don’t see taking UCLA, one of the better teams out there, out and moving them to a Region that is already, and usually, loaded.

  12. WatchutalkinboutWillis

I wish they would just seed it 1-68 based on a combination of metrics, and leave geography out of it. Just once I want to see nothing move teams into easier or harder positions based on non basketball playing reasons.

    • J-Dub421
      10:41 am March 13, 2017 Permalink

Using geography as a determining factor always screws the east coast teams.

    • RealCatsFan
      10:48 am March 13, 2017 Permalink

They won’t do this because at the end of the day, it is all about getting butts in the seats. They don’t want to send teams out of their geographic regions and risk having half empty arenas. Not all fans travel like BBN. 🙂

Playing our best basketball right now. If they continue to defend like they are, if the seniors continue to step up when the freshmen are losing their minds or in foul trouble, I feel confident against anybody. Not worried about Monk because he was still defending, rebounding and attacking for the most part. To learn to win when his shots aren’t falling is a huge step forward. And he’ll be back in super shooting mode any minute now.
