Kevin Knox says he would save Coach Cal over other coaches in hypothetical life boat situation

Screen Shot 2017-04-04 at 5.44.28 PM

USA Today’s Jason Jordan has a fun video from the McDonald’s All-American Game in which he asks Kevin Knox and Mohamed Bamba hypothetical questions about the remaining schools and coaches they are considering.

In the first question, Kevin Knox says he would save John Calipari over the other coaches on his list if he were in a lifeboat and could only rescue one from the water (and in turn, death).

Make of that what you will, but this is a good look at their personalities and further proves all the good things people say about Bamba’s future as a politician.

The video auto plays so let’s put it after a jump…

He’ll save Cal because he’s players first. He’ll get you prepared for the greatest stage of your college career…The NBA draft stage.

If you were an elite athlete isn’t that what you’d want? Or maybe you’d rather go to a school that has fake classes you don’t have to attend and you’re allowed to sleep in class or maybe you prefer cheap hookers…

If I was playing college basketball I’d want to win a championship.

Depends on how you want to win. If winning without integrity is all that matters then you would belong at UNC or UofL. You don belong in the BBN!

I never said anything about winning dirty. Cal says draft night is the greatest moment in UK history. He says we’re the Gold Standard. But that gold standard doesn’t apply to winning championships. Duke and UCONN have more since he’s been at the Gold Standard UK. I’m tired of his 8 player turnaround every single season. We won’t see another championship again until he’s no longer the head coach here.

I imagine every kid wants to win an NCAA championship but given the choice between staying another year or two and risking injury or becoming an overnight millionaire is an easy choice. I’m pretty sure as unscrupulous as you are you would take the money and run also….if you didn’t get caught up in a scandal before the draft.

Stan you need to take your silly ass to another site, BBN does not need whiners like you.

I don’t blame them for taking the money. You’re right I would too. But people give Jay Wright flack and say he’s a yearly underachiever. The same with Bill Self. But you all worship Cal and his NBA factory here. You don’t dare call him an underachiever even though he’s matched those other coaches national titles (1). I have every right to call him out just like you have the right to tell me to go to a different site. But this is getting old and repetitive. New crop of players come in. Play sloppy at the beginning of the year. Make a tweak or two. Look better in conference tournament. Play a few good tournament games. Lose a game. Season over. Mass Exodus. Rinse and repeat.

He’s made the Final Four 50% of his tenure here! How is that underachieving?? Once you get to the Final Four it’s a lotta luck anyway.

It’s not ideal to have massive turnover on a roster anuually. My preference to 8 five star one and dones would be maybe 5 with three *lesser* recruits. Lesser being 4 stars cause I’m greedy. I think most of those would not be considered the one and done type. However, let’s not pretend the big dance is anything other than a crap shoot. 2015 should have taught us that. Single elimination tournaments do not necessarily crown the best team as the champion. Our last title prior to Cal was ’98, not exactly winning the whole shebang frequently. I’ll take Cal’s way. We legitimately have a shot most years and that’s about all you can ask for.

Easy there, 4everblue, before you start throwing shade at other programs. UNC and Louisville have both forever stained their programs, and both are getting off too easy. But I remember the darker days of our program. In addition to “Kentucky’s Shame” and the famous Fed-Ex envelope full of cash from 1989, UK was essentially given the death penalty for a point-shaving scandal involving beloved names like Groza, Spivey, Beard, and Barnstable 1951 and was forced to cancel an entire season as punishment.

I love my Cats and trust that Cal is running a clean program, but don’t forget your past and don’t call the kettle black when you are the pot.

Stan it’s real simple….you don’t like it here at UK pick a program that lives up to your standards. UK obviously does not. We will not miss you.

Larry you’re right, we did things wrong in the past, the difference is we paid dearly for our transgressions if you’re memory is good enough. Tell me how the teams I mentioned have been penalized please.

I didn’t call UK the Gold Standard. Calipari did. Are we really the Gold Standard when we’ve won 1 Championship since he’s been here? You answered in another thread that you’re happy being a UK fan. I never questioned that. I asked if you’re happy Duke and UCONN have more championships since Cal has been at UK? Just answer me that one question.

Also Larry let’s talk about who we are today since we can’t control the past…. and while we’re at it let’s talk about who UNC and UofL are today. However UNC has been doing it for over a decade and what???

    • cat fan stan
      7:03 pm April 4, 2017 Permalink

And 4everblue. We paid so dearly that we kept the 3 championships we won during the years of our infractions. And we won another while we were on probation.

Stan you better get your facts straight on the championships before you come in here spouting inaccurate statements. You’d better go do some research, I won’t even dignify that last idiotic statement.

The “only one championship” crowd never name a coach who would have done better. You want Huckleberry Hound with his 3 titles and cloud of suspicion? Of course if he were at UK under the same circumstances as UNC the banners would come down. The NCAA would make sure of that.

Stan wants to recruit less talented players that will be in school for 4 years…when he’s hired as head coach, he can do that…he will have a decent team every 4 yrs when they’re seniors…maybe. Meanwhile he will lose to Akron, Miami of Ohio, Gardner-Webb, and Western Kentucky.
His team won’t win a conference with 3 teams in the Elite 8, they won’t finish 32-5, have a legitimate shot at the Final Four and the Championship.
He will never win 38 games in a season, that being the most any team in history has won.
      It’s been done 3 times….UK…UK…and Memphis.
I wonder if he can tell us who coached all 3 of those teams. Don’t help him now.

Cal is great. All the hate for him still boggles my mind. He is an A+ recruiter, and A+ developer, A+ tournament coach, but yes, is only a B on-court coach. You can’t be perfect in everything. At the end of the day….do you want Fox/Davis/Wall etc. or Billy Gillespie’s trophy 8th grader?

Or we could go back to the Tubby years….he won one with Pitino’s players, then had many 4 year players but never made it out of the elite 8 after that.

And I think he’s a pretty good in game coach as well. I think he knows what to do when listening to him on the radio and press conferences, he knows what to do in games. He just doesn’t always have the guys to do it. But I love cal, great coach, greater personality.

1 title in 8 years is more than over 300 D-1 schools can claim. So what if UConn and Duke have one more title than we do since cal has been here. That’s two schools. Two. Anyone who says Cal needs to go is being terribly short-sighted.
