Kevin Knox picks KENTUCKY

Andy Jones | Tampa Tribune

Andy Jones | Tampa Tribune

Five-star 6’8 small forward Kevin Knox has committed to Kentucky! The Tampa (Fla.) Catholic product is ranked second in his position, right between Michael Porter Jr., who is committed to Missouri, and Jarred Vanderbilt who is coming to Kentucky. Knox is ranked 10th nationally overall.

Heading into tonight’s announcement, Knox was a heavy favorite towards Duke in the 247 sports Crystal Ball profile.

This commitment puts Kentucky with three small forwards on their roster with Knox, Vanderbilt, Wenyen Gabriel.

Knox also had offers from Duke, UNC, Florida State and Missouri.

This is great news for the Cats and will give them a little depth if Mo Bamba decides to go to Duke or Texas.

Careful using the word “ball”, Linzo is trying to trademark that word. May charge you $500(or force you to buy a pair of his shoes) per use.

Agree. Kentucky needs guards. Knox will play the 2 & 3 at UK which will make them very long, what Cal likes. He’d play the 3 & 4 at Duke thanks to The Trip Show playing one more year.

Tells me he knows Diallo is gone and he will be our starting “2” just my opinion.

    • saturnsc1
      8:05 pm May 6, 2017 Permalink

Diallo is a shooting guard and Knox is a small forward. Don’t think Knox was too concerned about Diallo hurting his playing time.

    • Mc12
      8:09 pm May 6, 2017 Permalink

I disagree. Vanderbilt, Washington, and Gabriel can play the 3. Cal is going after positionless players but recruited Knox using Monk as a frame of reference as to how he will use him. We will see but I would bet on it

    • a21CATSfan
      8:17 pm May 6, 2017 Permalink

Wow I can’t say that I’m not shocked. Cal realized this kid wants to be an “alpha dog” so he pitched him to replace Malik. With Diallo already set to take up that role next year I think that’s what he was worried about (Knox). I wonder if the good reviews for Hami helped push Kentucky over the top. Cal will have Quade Green (pure point), Jemarl Baker (shooter) and then 6-7 guys who can be truly positionless. Cal is a genius.

    • saturnsc1
      8:18 pm May 6, 2017 Permalink

I’m not for sure how you are comparing Knox and Monk. Knox will play the 3 the majority of the time. He averages 30% from 3pt, so it would make little sense to play a 6’8″ foward at you 2 spot.

    • Mc12
      9:01 pm May 6, 2017 Permalink

Why would Cal recruit Knox and use Monk in his pitch? Just watch and time will tell

    • Mc12
      9:06 pm May 6, 2017 Permalink

And I’m not saying he won’t play the 3 but if Diallo leaves don’t be shocked if Knox starts with Vanderbilt (if healthy) and Washington.

    • Mc12
      12:51 pm May 7, 2017 Permalink

Also, it’s not a reach to have Knox, at 6’8 play the 2 shooting 30 percent from 3, although he has good form and can improve that number as opposed to Diallo shooting 30 percent from 3. Cal is like a mad scientist and may have 4 guys starting over 6’8

Sascha K Jones is NOT a SF!!! Cant believe the writer of this article, a UK fan, thinks SKJ is a SF. Knox is the only true SF on the team. Vanderbilt, Gabriel and Washington are Combo Feds’s and Vanderbilt is probably not going to play next year which was another factor that probably seayed Knox to UK. And to the author of this story. SKJ is a C or at very least C/PF.

  35. TheMaxCat

The SEC is going to be much improved and that will only benefit us all. If we dont get Mamba and Diallo stays in the draft we will still be very very good and one of the favorites to win it all. If we get Mamba and Diallo stays at UK we will be scary good and the favorite to win it all. Talent, size, depth and versatility unmatched. Cal may have to play two units again (nice problem to have).

I really can’t believe he came to UK. Just goes to show these guys are paying attention to what Cal’s players are doing in the NBA and while championships are nice, these guys want to get to the league and no one does it better. I can only imagine how pissed Coach K and Roy are right now and I wish I could see Coach K’s face when Bamba becomes a Cat. I think with Knox pulling the trigger, we will get him. I think this past season really hurt Duke with a lot of top talent.
