Kevin Knox named SEC Freshman of the Week

Congratulations to Kevin Knox, who was just named SEC Freshman of the Week for his performances vs. West Virginia and Mississippi State.

Knox was the star of Kentucky’s win over West Virginia, scoring a career-high 34 points to lead the Cats back from a 15-point halftime deficit. He was 11-17 from the floor, 5-8 from behind the three-point line, and 7-8 from the free-throw line. His 34 points are the most by a Kentucky player since De’Aaron Fox scored 39 vs. UCLA in last year’s Sweet 16. His five threes are the most by any Wildcat this season.

Knox also had 19 points and 6 rebounds vs. Mississippi State on Tuesday night, bringing his average for the week to 26.5 points and 6.5 rebounds. He shot 69.6 percent from the field, 75.0 percent from behind the arc, and 85.7-percent rate from the free-throw line.

Knox leads the Cats in scoring (15.5 points per game), 3-pointers (34) and minutes per game (32.5 per game). He’s led Kentucky in scoring a team-high seven times and has scored in double figures in a team-best 16 games, including six performances of 20 or more points.

This is Knox’s first SEC honor and the third for Kentucky this season. Hamidou Diallo and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander previously also won SEC Freshman of the Week.

Let’s celebrate by watching Knox’s teammates mob him after his big game on Saturday.

This is why we love this team.
