Kevin Knox Invited to NBA Combine

The next step of the NBA Draft process is complete for Kevin Knox.

The father of the Kentucky small forward told the Herald-Leader’s Jerry Tipton that his son has accepted an invitation to the NBA Combine.  Scheduled for May 16-20 in Chicago, Knox will participate in the drills, interviews and measurements, but will not scrimmage against other competitors.

Knox is currently projected near the end of the lottery.  An excellent combine could change that for the better.

He is the first Kentucky Wildcat confirmed to have an NBA Combine invitation in hand.  Sent out Friday night, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Hamidou Diallo likely received the same invite. However, their status remains uncertain, along with P.J. Washington, Jarred Vanderbilt and Wenyen Gabriel.

If you don’t get invited to the combine there is no reason you should go pro. Come on back Wenyen and Jarred!

Here’s a good question for KSR: how many people got drafted the last few years without being invited to the combine? I know some high picks declined but what about no getting invited. Anyone? So it may not make u but if u don’t score an invitation and ur testing the waters that’s a prettty good indication it’s too deep. Do some workouts, meet w some people and then come on back.

I believe all the invites have been sent out but the list will not go public until sometime this week.

KSR puts way too much stock in to the combine. The combine will have little to no effect on Knox’s draft position. It only potentially helps players who play in the scrimmages.

It’s a little surprising given social media and 24×7 news that word is not out yet on PJ, JV and Wenyen. Everyone got their invitations so as the old country song goes “if the phone ain’t ringin’ I assume it still ain’t u”. I recall some people get alternate invitations or basically wait listed bc some of the higher picks opt not to go or just to work out but not play as Knox did. Wondering if this delay isn’t figuring out spin control when the news wasn’t what they’d hoped.

Some players only get invites if they agree to play 5v5 and i would assume Wenyen,PJ, and Vanderbilt would be in that category. So the news may not come out until the accept or decline.
