The Kentucky alums participating in this year’s edition of The Basketball Tournament have added a fifth player — small forward Kevin Galloway.

The Bluegrass Boys’ official title is followed with “Kentucky Alumni” in parenthesis, although Galloway isn’t technically an alum.  Galloway transferred to Kentucky from USC and played one year for Billy Gillispie in 2008-09, averaging two points, two rebounds and two assists a game.  He transferred to Texas Southern after the head coaching change.

Since his college playing days ended in 2011, Galloway has primarily played overseas.  Currently balling in Beirut, he reels in triple doubles on a regular basis with a stat line of 15 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds per game.

The first regional portion of The Basketball Tournament begins July 9th in Charlotte and will be televised by ESPN.  If you want to watch Galloway ball alongside Marquis Teague, Joe Crawford, Perry Stevenson and Ramel Bradley for a $2 million grand prize, you need to secure their spot by submitting your vote for The Bluegrass Boys.

Why are they still ineligible? And why are they competing in the Midwest instead of the south?

Teams have to have 7 players on the roster to be considered eligible. Right now the site shows Bradley, Crawford, Gallway, Stevenson, & Teague. Until they get 2 more official roster players they are ineligible. I assume this is not that big of deal to get 2 more, since they already have 5 former D1 players, they coudl pick up just about any godo rec league player to sub in to give a blow if worse comes to worst

If Galloway isn’t “technically an alum”, how is Teague?

An alum, in this case a shortened form of alumnus, is a male graduate or former student of a specific college, school, etc. So the Kentucky Alumni is still appropriate.

Beat me to it–alumnus, alumna, alumni (plural) are often confused with graduate. They’re not exactly synonymous. If you’ve ever attended a school, you’re an alumnus (male) or alumna (female).
