Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament Team Sheet after the Auburn win

As expected, Kentucky’s win at Auburn gave them a nice boost in the rankings and ratings. The Cats are now No. 8 in the AP Poll and the NCAA’s NET rankings, which become more and more important as we inch closer to the tournament.

After each game, we’ll take a look at Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament team sheet, which the Selection Committee uses to pick and seed teams. Each team’s wins are sorted into four quadrants using their opponent’s NET rankings:

  • Quadrant 1: Home 1-30; Neutral 1-50; Away 1-75
  • Quadrant 2: Home 31-75; Neutral 51-100; Away 76-135
  • Quadrant 3: Home 76-160; Neutral 101-200; Away 136-240
  • Quadrant 4: Home 161-plus; Neutral 201-plus; Away 241-plus

Here’s Kentucky’s team sheet through January 20:

As you can see, Kentucky is now 3-2 in Quadrant 1 games with nine more on the schedule, two this week. Win both of those and that Quadrant starts to look really good. So, let’s do it.

Wonder if we will hear from the nay-sayers who overreacted when we were near the bottom of the way too early NET rankings after just a couple of games?

No. We only hear from them if we lose; then they come out like night crawlers after a rain…slithering along.

You know we will, there just too busy trying to cover their poor attitudes with mea culpa’s at the moment. We lose by 1 point to a very good Kansas team and they’ll be here saying how bad we suck. I wish their mom’s would take their internet away.

Bad analogy, rg. Night crawlers are actually useful for something.

Hell if we lose to KS by 1 they’ll drop us at LEAST 5 spots!!! KS loses by 1 they’ll drop 1, MAYBE!!! It’s just pathetic how we get treated.

Virginia loses and moves up 1. I know it was at Duke, but it was a loss and they went UP. Has there ever been a moment in history when UK lost and moved up in the polls? I have serious doubts..

We need to make a run to get that 1, 2, or 3 seed in the South Region so we can have our sweet 16/elite 8 games in the Yum! Center. Would be a huge advantage for us no matter who we play.

Totally agree. We’re right there, but gotta keep winning. Win both games this week and we should be knocking on the #1 seed door. Thankfully the SEC schedule is giving our boys multiple opportunities to pad the resume with quality wins, and shouldn’t hurt too much if they drop one or two depending on the opponent.

If we win all our gimmes and Seton Hall climbs 6 spots in NET before the end of the year, then we’ll have zero quadrant 2+ losses. That’s significant. This really goes to show how strong the conference is this year
