Kentucky/Auburn: Would You Rather?

You’ve probably played the game before, but in a much more sinister manner.  Today I give you two options for what you would rather see when UK takes on Auburn today at 4:00.

Would You Rather…

See Tai Wynyrd play, or Mychal Mulder hit two or more three-pointers?

Everybody wants to see the wood-chopper for the first time, but Mulder’s been so close to looking like a consistent contributor, he just needs a few 3’s to fall.

Would You Rather…

See Skal get a double-double, or Isaiah Briscoe shoot 100% from the free throw line?

Either one looks impossible right now, but I think I’d have to choose Skal, simply because I have more faith that a shooting guard can improve his free throw shot than I have faith in Skal putting together a productive game.

Would You Rather…

See a win with a powerful offense, or dominant defense?

After shooting poorly from behind the 3-point line to start the season, Kentucky has scored more than 75 points in five consecutive games.  Even though they’re shooting better and scoring more points, they let Miss. State shoot over 50%.  It was only the second time a team had shot over 50% at Rupp Arena since Calipari became coach.

With Ulis and Briscoe creating offense and Murray knocking down shots, I’m much more confident in the offense than I am the defense.  I’d like to see the defense step up today against a team that has a knack for getting buckets against Calipari.

Would You Rather…

Jamal Murray or Derek Willis figure out how to play defense?

Both can be a liability when defending on the ball.  It’s what’s preventing Murray from being more than just “a good shooter.”  However, it’s more important for this team to have depth inside, and if Willis can show enough effort and slow enough guys down, the frontcourt will improve exponentially.

Well, we require some more info, especially on the first two. If Tai is playing, it is likely either because we are up by 20 or because 3 of our bigs have fouled out. Otherwise two or more threes from Agent Mulder will likely be more helpful in winning the game…without any qualification as to how Tai performs.

If Briscoe is 2 for 2, not a big deal. Any double-double from Skal portends good results for the Cats…unless one of the double-figure stats is turnovers. If Isaiah is 15/15, well that might be more desirable.

Great defense usually leads to offensive opportunities through fast-break points so I will take defense.
