Kentucky Wins Miraculous Comeback 83-81 in Overtime

For the second consecutive game, Kentucky needed a miraculous second half comeback to win.  Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored a career-high 30 points to lead UK to an improbable 83-81 overtime victory over Vanderbilt.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s amazing night started when UK was down 14 with 15:23 to play in the second half.  SGA and Quade Green exploded for an 11-0 scoring run to close the gap to just four.  After playing a game of tug-o-war for the rest of the half, it all came down to the free throw line.

Once again, Riley LaChance was shooting free throws with the game on the line.  Once again, he choked away a chance to beat Kentucky.  LaChance’s front end miss on a one-and-one gave the Cats just enough wiggle room.  SGA took what LaChance gave him and buried two free throws with two seconds to play to force overtime.

Gilgeous-Alexander rode the wave of momentum into overtime by immediately scoring a bucket to retake the lead.  It looked like Kevin Knox sealed the deal with an ‘And One,’ his sixth overtime point, until Vandy found one more bucket.

It all ended with Green’s spectacular finish at the rim in transition with five seconds to play to give Kentucky a two-point victory.

Prayers for your dad 4everUKblue. My dad was the same way. He tried his best to stay calm when watching the Cats. But I knew were his heart was. And you could see the joy in his eyes. My dad’s gone now but the memory of his love for UK will never die and lives on through me. I will never give up on them like some did RIGHT AFTER HALFTIME of this game!! We were flat coming off a big win (to be expected) and Vanderbilt was determined to take advantage of that and played us tough. But for all you fair weather so called fans, WE CAME AWAY WITH THE WIN!!

Another miraculous comeback win. The problem is that eventually the luck factor is going to run out.

How do you fall behind by 14 points to a bad, short-handed team at home?

They did shoot free throw VERY well especially with the game on the line and that needs to be noted. They also didn’t turn the ball over much, another good thing.

Kevin Knox hopefully learned a lesson tonight. You simply always have to put a body on a guy, you never know where a shot is going to go.

They’ve played over 2/3rd’s of the regular season now, still making fundamental mistakes. Sooner or later they’ve got to learn don’t they?????

I was worried for just a second in the 2nd half lol, but these games are all learning lessons and we may still be learning come sec tourney play. I’m good with that cause this group will build from wins like this one, like WVU, and continue to come together. The talents there, it’s just getting them to have the come to Jesus moment and start playing for their team mates. When they mesh, they are top 5 in the country, but besides a half here or there they haven’t truly meshed yet. Until then I’ll enjoy the ride. GOBIGBLUE!!

Nice win, but dang Hami. Get in the game! 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist. Almost had the rare Triple1. 21 minutes for a player with his athleticism to only produce that stat-line is pitiful. Love him, but we won’t win any championships if he continues to disappear.
