Kentucky wins free-throw contest in Nashville 87-81

Well that was certainly an ugly basketball game to watch. It came down to the end, but Kentucky won what was basically a free-throw shooting contest in Nashville tonight, beating Vanderbilt 87-81. Forty-three fouls were called and 56 free throws taken.

Isaiah Briscoe led the way with a career-high 23 points off 10-18 shooting, along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. De’Aaron Fox was right behind him with 22 points and 5 rebounds. In between whistles, Briscoe and Fox were basically Kentucky’s offense in the second half, attributing for 29 of Kentucky’s points in the second half. Malik Monk had a quiet night, but came through in the clutch, getting a crucial layup and hitting four foul shots in the final twenty seconds.

Stay tuned for a live stream of Cal’s comments….

I can’t remember when I have been as mad at officials as I was this game. Pathetic. There really needs to be a more public review process for officials. You should not be allowed to let Vandy guards clear out without a call on every single drive and call UK guards for getting close to Vandy guards.

We are lucky their white boys missed a bunch of free throws when the game was tight. The kid that looks like Opie Taylor peed down his leg at the line.

I’m sorry guys but we need to get rid of our basketball program. Because you know monk is overrated, he has never scored 47 points or anything. But every vandy player has. But we are so overrated that we beat a team on one of our off nights, in a weird freaking gym, with slick floor, when the opposing team played the best game they had ever played since they played us last year. So yeah, we should just quit.

Atrocious officiating. These refs need to be held accountable, their rationale for blowing the whistle is mind blowing.

Whistle happy… can’t play a game like that; our defensive game was blown up in the first 4 minutes.

43 total fouls called, total disaster. There needs to be a flow to a game and when the whistles are out of control, it makes for a terrible, unwatchable game. Sure some of the whistles may have been warranted, but I saw a couple of fouls called where they could have been let go. I didn’t see Bam do anything on the three point line when they said he bumped somebody, as an example. We need the NCAA to make their officiating great again, and fire this crew immediately.

The SEC is a joke of a basketball league and tonight is an example why. You can GUARANTEE that when you’re on the road you’re going to get screwed. There’s no way this should have been anything but a blowout and the conference just doesn’t want to see KY doing it. I have always believed the conference thinks close games NEED to happen so it appears the league is tougher than it actually is. It’s pathetic.

Yes the officiating was horrendous but there are always going to be games like this and great teams find a way to win a few ugly games on the road and that is what we did tonight.

Duke/FSU is supposed to be on. But the only President worse than Jimmy Carter is speaking on all the major networks . Thank God the clown is almost out.

Trump sucks. Hilary sucks. Politics suck. Especially when you all try to bring it up on a sports site after a win.

That felt like a 53 – 49 game. Then you look up, it’s in the 80’s. even slow-down games are high scoring this year!

The SEC officials in the early ’70’s called the games exactly like tonight; it was like a ballet instead of a basketball gamed. Then, when our teams played in the NCAA, they couldn’t handle the contact.

Watching the last of Duke-FSU; they are knocking, banging, pushing and shoving under the goal…no whistles. It doesn’t even look like the same sport.
Leonard Hamilton has a great team.

Kentucky struggles when they don’t have a 5th double-digit scorer. Wenyen or Willis has to step up or Mulder needs more opportunities. Big win on the road with the ball bouncing every way but ours. CATS

Gabriel is a haircut away from being a great player.

Great job by the team of pulling this win out. I know most people are going to look at this game and be disappointed that it was even close with a 8-7 Vandy team but considering how awful the officiating was along with Vandy hitting multiple contested threes at the end, it was really a great job by the team to close out and execute extremely well in the last couple minutes. Briscoe’s leadership was great, Bam actually made freethrows (8-10 holy jesus), Fox hit some jumpshots, and Monk came in the clutch.

Cats are getting nothing consistent out of the bigs. Bam had a great first half but just went AWOL the second, needs to work making himself available for the ball. Gabriel scares me whenever he is on the floor with his lack of defense and really poor scoring ability. Willis is on and off and has it seems a lazy approach to the game at times and does not work to put himself into the flow of the action and again poor defense. Maybe Cal should try Humphries ( 7 rebounds in 8 mins ) with Bam to play a double post tandem to give us more rebounding and size inside. Thank goodness for the guards the best backcourt in the nation.
