Kentucky wins 76-66 and Malik Monk is an animal

A 30-point second half for Malik Monk carried Kentucky to a very nice win over Florida and into sole possession of first place in the SEC.

After going to the bench with three points and five turnovers before halftime, Monk came out and took over the game in the second, finishing with a game-high 33 in the win.

Florida couldn’t do anything but watch him light it up.

Good win for the young cats but Florida is not the same team without John Egbunu

Hawkins didn’t shoot well but got Monk involved and played amazing defense.

Briscoe can’t shoot and is a low-key of dirty player but I love him and his edge. If he stays within himself and avoids jumpers like he did today he really helps us. (He also has to stop fouling)

Our half-court offense still revolves around Malik Monk transforming into Jordan… Luckily he did in the second half but that’s not sustainable.

Mulder gave us good minutes and was much better on D than most of us thought. But his offensive game is one dimensional and Florida didn’t have trouble stopping him. He should still be the second guard off the bench to me. (Or take minutes from our “Stretch 4s”)

Bam is turning into the player people thought he could be but we also need to stop forcing the ball to him like he’s Shaq.

Right because Kentucky is the same team without Fox right?

Nope that would be why I said “good win”.

Briscoe had third most points, shot 50% made 3/5 FT. 8 rebounds 2 TO in 26 min.
Hawk played great in 37 min. He has earned a spot on the floor.
Objectively Briscoe played no part in us possibly losing.

Lol, funny you bring him up but don’t mention we were without one of the best players in the country. Huge win. We are going to be very dangerous in March with a healthy Fox. I guess some people will never be satisfied. Enjoy the win.

Agree with everything you said except for Bam.

He can score in the post and he’s getting better. We have to develop that facet of his game because if we don’t then our offense really will depend on “Monk turning into Jordan”

…not that you said that about Briscoe. More of a generic reply to the haters no doubt to show.

I said something positive about every single player while gave valid criticisms.

But I guess I forgot about the KSR “can’t critique the team or you are not a real fan after a win rule”

      It was a GOOD WIN.
We have stuff to work on too don’t know why that’s controversial lol.

      Chill out.

lol. This still isnt a title team IMO. Is that such a bad opinion. Yes they beat Florida. Lets not act like we are #1 overall seed favorite to win it all. Monk has to go crazy in order for us to win big games. Good luck counting on that every game

    • RexRox
      4:43 pm February 25, 2017 Permalink

Hey, the guy had 9 points, 8 rebounds and only shot the ball 6 times. And had only 2 turnovers. I’ll take that every game. Personally, I think the team needs at least one player who plays with an edge. For this team, that would be Briscoe. One thing I have noticed during Cal’s ‘one-and-done’ run is older teams have consistently tried to bully the younger, more talented Cats. Guys like Briscoe keep that from happening.

      I love Briscoe. Suck it.

    • CATandMONKEY
      4:51 pm February 25, 2017 Permalink

I never came to Briscoe’s defense until a few games ago when people lost objectivity, ignored facts and started treating a UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY player like he was a UofL or Duke goon. I always support our players. Period. Saying that ANY of our players suck is bad form…even those who actually suck.
Briscoe has underwhelmed at times and not always met our sometimes ridiculous expectations but objectively he hardly sucks and often outperforms most of the guys that the haters seem to prefer. Hell, he still shoots the 3 better than Fox ( who we miss and definitely need!)

    • TheBigTuna
      6:27 pm February 25, 2017 Permalink

Never compare Briscoe to Allen. Allen is sneaky and acts with intent to do harm, that’s truly dirty. Briscoe has sacrificed more than enough in contributing to this team. Of course he has his flaws as a basketball player, but I love the way he can put the ball on his hip and get to the rim. Catch him outside if your’re willing call him a “b****” on here.

    • RexRox

In previous games Monk had to hit 3s or Jumpers to score. Today he drove alot and got alot of FTs and some open shots near the goal.

Is Malik Monk driving the ball this year’s “tweak”?

If so I can dig it.

    • RexRox
      4:49 pm February 25, 2017 Permalink

Monk is much better when he drives the ball. Lots of guys out there can shoot (albeit without his quick release). Combining his shooting accuracy and quick release with his world-class athleticism is what makes him the Cats primary weapon on the way to the Final Four, as well as an NBA lottery pick.

Anyone notice both of the big runs they had Briscoe wasn’t in the game??? He would have slowed the game up or turned the ball over with a bad pass or a dumb shot!

    • blackmilk23
      4:54 pm February 25, 2017 Permalink

      That’s is objectively false.

He went out in the first half with 2 fouls and we didn’t have a FG for the last 7 minutes.

He came back in when we were either tied or up one in the second and didn’t come out the rest of the way… and we won by 10.

We get it. You hate Briscoe. Big Board SLAYED you the other night and not ONE SINGLE person agreed with you.
Call the police or internet crime squad. Your record of posts stands as a testemant of your unadulterated hatred and unfair treatment of a player who wears the UK blue.
I will allow others to destroy you tonight. Briscoe’s play in 26 minutes was at least as good and arguably better than Hawkins…who played a good game in 37 minutes.

    • JusSayin
      5:01 pm February 25, 2017 Permalink

Yep and your guy Mulder shot the lights out just like you said he would!

He should start every game. Briscoe should be at the end of the bench.

Who needs 9 points and 8 rebounds in 26 minutes. (Sarcasm off)

    • catsarerunnin
      5:17 pm February 25, 2017 Permalink

      We won.

    • 8 rebounds from a 6’2″ guard having to play the 3 and having to (at times) guard guys 6 or 7 inches taller than he is.

Look, he certainly has his flaws, and maybe Cal,plays him too much, but I’m afraid UK fans, yours truly included, are spoiled and we want every 5 star to come in and play like Wall, Boogie, AD, MKG, and KAT. It just isn’t possible.

This box score is wrong. Willis had a block, it was like his first play of the game.

They credited it to Mulder looks like. I thought he blocked it till I saw the replay.

    • AndTheDevil
      5:17 pm February 25, 2017 Permalink

Yeah, seems to be the case. Though I though Willis had a 2nd block, but looking back it was a brush of the ball more than a block.

Good call- rewatching it; that block was 100% willis’. Mulder played good defense on that play but Willis was the one who sent that shot away.

A lot of negativity for arguably the biggest win of the year so far..or at the very least best win in conference play. We were down 8 early in the 1st half & down 7 early in the 2nd but still won by 10. Enjoy the win, BBN. Lots to be pleased with…
