    Thank God at least Miller isn’t calling the game,biggest Homer for his Bruins..Even Walton does a better unbiased job calling their games.

      Miller isn’t alone in this but he doesn’t even know the rules of the game. There is not even a mention of having feet planted with regard to the charge, blocking call. Like I say, he isn’t alone but some comprehension of the basic rules should be a baseline for getting on the air in that position.

      For those who doubt me and I know there are, check the current NCAA rules book which is available on their site in pdf format.

      NCAA Rule book 2016-17

      Section 17 – Guarding Art. 6. To maintain a legal guarding position after the initial position has
      been established, the guard:
      a. Is not required to continue having the torso face the opponent;
      b. Cannot have either foot out of bounds;
      c. May raise the hands or may jump within his own vertical plane;
      d. May shift to maintain guarding position in the path of the dribbler,
      provided that the guard does not charge into the dribbler or otherwise
      cause contact;
      e. May move laterally or obliquely to maintain position provided such a
      move is not toward the opponent when contact occurs; Exception: A
      secondary defender who has established initial legal guarding position on
      an airborne shooter/passer may not move laterally or obliquely to maintain
      legal guarding position. The secondary defender in this position may remain
      stationary or may move backwards. See also A.R. 89.
      f. Is not required to have the feet on the playing court when shifting in
      the path of the dribbler or when moving laterally or obliquely; and
      g. May turn or duck to absorb shock when contact by the dribbler is
      imminent. In such a case, the dribbler shall not be absolved from the
      responsibility of contact.

    The more I watch Ucla the more I think they’re the best team in the tournament, only chance I see them losing is if they have a bad shooting night, which can happen with good defense, but I don’t see it happening against us unless we get lucky. I hope I’m wrong because if we get past them I don’t see a team beating us.

    Ridiculous. These multi-billion $$ TV deals need to include better time slots. There’s no reason the 1st games of the Sweet 16 couldn’t be played in the 5-6 pm slot. The nightly news isn’t a good enough excuse ; you’re making more than enough $$ to broadcast on an alternate network/channel, even if you have to create one. It’s not fair to the teams that have to play late every game, nor to their fans. At the very least, they should switch it up for the Sweet 16 and Final 4 ; if you played early last round, you play the late game next round, and vice versa.

      That’s no fault of the teams/schools being forced to play the late games. Most “people with families” have enough sense to record/DVR their programs, because of their crazy schedules.

    I don’t like the timeslot at all. To UCLA it will feel like it’s a 6:40pm game (ending at 10)… a regular season game time.

    To our team it will be 9:40pm to midnight.

    If Cal complains about the timeslot it’s because he sees our team doesn’t respond well to it.

    Maybe Cal can use the week to get the team on a later daily rhythm (wake up around noon and go to sleep at 2am).

    UCLA is pretty much the same team they were when we played them. Us on the other hand, we actually have a defense now and I dont see them putting up 97pts again. Our seniors have really stepped up and we had no contributions from them before. I remember we lost that game because Monk and some others were acting like they were playing AAU ball. Isn’t that the same game Briscoe stepped on the baseline 3 times? I just feel like if we can put pressure on them and force turnovers, I think we will be ok. Willis has been playing really good defense and him on Leaf will be a good match up.

      Kentucky was beaten by UCLA back on December 3 for several reasons:

      1. UCLA returned a mainly veteran team (with a strong set of role players = nucleus from last season) + a lottery PG and the 2nd coming of Larry Bird (TJ Leaf – leads team in points, rebounds, FG%, & 3PT %).

      2. UK had 0 chemistry that early with a roster reload (21 days into their 2016-2017 schedule.. the 8th game).

      Game Notes:
      – Kentucky had zero defense.
      – UCLA hit every shot (veterans with high fg%… see season stats below).
      – Rupp Arena didn’t faze UCLA.
      – Briscoe shot the ball beyond 2′ from the basket 10 times too many (4-14 FG & 0-5 3PT).
      – Fox looked rushed and Ball looked calm.
      Box Score & Fan Notes:

      UCLA Season Statistics:
      UCLA Season Statistics:
      TJ Leaf………29.8..16.2..8.2..2.5..0.6..61.6%…68.6%…45.6%
      Bryce Alford….33.0..15.6..2.5..2.6..0.5..44.8%…82.1%…43.3%
      Lonzo Ball……35.0..14.7..6.1..7.6..1.9..55.6%…67.7%…42.0%
      Isaac Hamilton..29.9..14.0..3.5..2.8..0.7..44.8%…82.1%…35.5%
      Aaron Holiday…26.5..12.5..2.9..4.4..1.1..48.5%…80.6%…41.4%

      We can win but only if Briscoe stays in his lane & the team (hey Wenyen… this includes you dude) plays their best lockdown defense of the season. We have to come out and just take the game from them… as there will be no playing from behind with the highest scoring team in the country.

    • JusSayin

      Briscoe did take like 5 threes in this game inexplicably. Also Willis couldn’t guard TJ leaf.

      But I will say I think Fox outplayed Ball. Fox had 20 and 9. Ball had 6 TOs.

    UCLA has played their best basketball. The Cats will win this! Fox outplayed Ball the first time, even though we lost. The fact that we now can actually play defense, but UCLA still can only manage about 15 minutes of sold D a game will make all the difference.

      Analyst are under estimating this team. That got the “it” factor. They find ways to win in multiple styles and are still getting better defensively. My guess is that if UK beats UCLa they will start talking UK to the title game.
