Kentucky up to No. 9 in Coaches Poll

Kentucky did its part to improve its resume last week, beating LSU and Florida, but clearly, the voters are not that impressed. After moving up to No. 8 in the AP Poll, the Cats climbed only one spot in the Coaches Poll to No. 9.

Kansas, Baylor, Dayton, Gonzaga, and San Diego State make up the top five of the Coaches Poll. Florida State, Duke, Maryland, Kentucky, and Louisville round out the top ten, with the Blue Devils only falling one spot despite losing by 22 points to an unranked NC State team.

The final was 22 pt spread, bu anyone watching knows it was a 30 pt blowout. NCSU stopped playing defense in the last two minutes up by 28.

Each one is more laughable than the last.

Was hoping UK would at least move ahead of duke and up to 7th or 8th. Maybe we can go 2-0 this week and a couple of teams lose and move us up a few more spots.

I wonder how much the AP Poll matters on the NCAA seeding.

Duke is a joke when it comes to polling. We already knew they wouldn’t drop more than one spot even if they lost both games. No reason we don’t move up more than one spot after two very solid wins in a tough SEC. KENTUCKY bias and Duke jockery is all it comes down to.

    Duke only dropped one slot?
I am surprised they did not move up a couple rungs since they only lost by 22.

The Duke ranking doesn’t really bother me much since the top 6-8 was nearly static for about a month. Also, they have 4 losses to our 5. Their win over Kansas ends up looking a lot better than our win over MSU, unfortunately.

I don’t get why Maryland didn’t move behind us, though but everyone is crowing about the Big 10 and the SEC might not get more than four teams in. I think when you’ve got a major ranking system that has us ranked so low, and it’s one that is NCAA official, it’s going to impact our polling votes.

Maybe next year it will benefit us, but hopefully next year we won’t suffer a loss as bad as Evansville (or Utah).

Maybe next year they will use it for its ADVERTISED and INTENDED purposeā€”to reward good wins instead of punishing bad losses!
