Kentucky to play at West Virginia in Big 12/SEC Challenge

You can now add another basketball game to your calendar as UK officially announced its Big 12/SEC Challenge game Thursday morning.

As predicted, Kentucky will travel to Morgantown to play at West Virginia in the Cats’ annual Big 12/SEC Challenge contest. That one will be played on Saturday, January 27 and will air on one of the stations within the ESPN family of networks.

The trip will be only the program’s third all-time to lovely Mo’town, but the Mountaineers are a familiar foe to Big Blue Nation, especially during the Calipari era. We last saw Bob Huggins’ team in the 2015 NCAA tournament when Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Harrison and the boys dominated West Virginia in the Sweet 16 game and doubled them up on the scoreboard, 78-39.

As for the rest of the Big 12/SEC slate, here’s the full list of the head-to-heads:

Kentucky at West Virginia
Texas A&M at Kansas
Baylor at Florida
Oklahoma at Alabama
Ole Miss at Texas
Oklahoma State at Arkansas
Texas Tech at South Carolina
TCU at Vanderbilt
Tennessee at Iowa State
Georgia at Kansas State

So who’s ready for a trip to Morgantown?

That’ll be a good game. One of the games of the year, maybe.

It’s going to be an icy game in my house, my fiancée is a mountaineer fan. At least it isn’t a Tournament game!

The good thing is that it’s in late January. We should be coming together by then.

Kentucky and Kansas should be the matchup every year. Home and home, Rupp and the Phog, nothing better.

True, but we play Kansas in November. SEC should win the challenge this year btw. Would’ve liked to have seen Missouri vs Kansas since we play WVU.

Yeah we okay KU in the champions classic or whatever so I don’t know if you’re allowed to play the same non conference opponent twice in the regular season.

WV likes to talk about the 2011 game but they seem to forget we have knocked them out of the tournament twice since then.

Ha, yeah my bad. They beat us in 10 and we got them in 11. The 15 game was awesome!

Being mountaineers, those 3 girls are likely fraternal, conjoined triplets.

Wish it had been Texas so we could beat up on Bamba once

This should be REALLY fun to watch. WVA is consistently a good team. I watched them nearly beat some excellent teams last season only to fall apart at the end. You can bet Huggins will have his team ready when the #1 Wildcats and College Game Day come to town. (A little wishful thinking!?)

They are decent but just like the rest of the Big 12 they always flame out in the tournament. That’s the most overrated conference. UK could definitely be number 1 by then. We have a very tough schedule again, though. And the SEC is vastly improved.

I’ll be SHOCKED if we are number 1 at that point. We are going to lose at least 7 games. At least. If the guard play comes along we can be as good as anyone by March. If it doesn’t people will be pretty disappointed in the results we get this year.

Yeah, we probably won’t be number 1 but I’d say top 5-10 at least.
