Kentucky set to host Brandon Huntley-Hatfield on virtual visit this week

Kentucky is set to host one of the top prospects in high school basketball on a virtual visit this week.

2022 top-ten prospect Brandon Huntley-Hatfield will take a virtual visit with the Kentucky coaching staff on Thursday, his mother, Antoinette Huntley, tells KSR.

Originally a member of the 2021 class, the five-star forward moved back a year to the 2022 class over a year ago, sparking legitimate reclassification rumors in recent months. Academically, Huntley-Hatfield remains a junior, which explains why he was allowed to take official visits to both Ole Miss and Memphis back in the fall. Though the 6-foot-9 forward and his camp say he’s sticking with 2022 for now, the expectation is that Huntley-Hatfield will ultimately reclassify back to his original 2021 class when it comes time for a decision.

And when that decision comes, Kentucky is seen as the heavy favorite, with UK picking up two FutureCasts for the five-star forward on Rivals.com and three Crystal Ball picks on 247Sports.com. Originally from Clarksville, TN, Huntley-Hatfield is the cousin of former UK forward Alex Poythress.

UK assistant coach Joel Justus first visited the 6-foot-9 forward on September 16, followed by a trip from head coach John Calipari on October 22 and a scholarship offer on October 29.

Justus then visited Huntley-Hatfield again on December 8, with the five-star forward returning the favor with an unofficial visit to Lexington on December 28. Justus added another visit to see the top-ten prospect on February 5.

Not a lot of tape on this kid, but seems like a promising prospect that we’ll likely have for at least 2 years. This summer will be huge for him in terms of development – both body and skillset.

Agreed. He was literally going against zero defensive pressure. However, there is no doubt this kid has the talent and ability. Give him a year or two to develop and watch out! He’ll be a beast.

His shooting form reminds me of Poythress.

Jack, I got a real dumb question. Do these “virtual visits” count towards a recruits 5 official visits?

I would guess not since no actual costs are being spent. Similar to an official visit where 100% of the costs are coming from the recruit and their family.

      Unofficial*

No, doesn’t count toward anything. Less than an unofficial visit, honestly. Like a glorified FaceTime call.

I can see the resemblance. This kid would be a great addition to the program.
