Kentucky puts away Texas A&M 71-63

It wasn’t pretty but Kentucky got the win at Texas A&M 71-63 to become outright SEC Champs. De’Aaron Fox led the way with 19 points, followed by Bam with 13 and Derek Willis with 11. The most promising part of the game? Kentucky found a way to win with Malik Monk only scoring six points.

More coverage coming all afternoon…

If they spot an NCAA tourney team 15+, they will lose. You cannot do that against quality teams and expect to win.

I actually think they will be a better tournament team than conference team.

Malik Monk is a better neutral site player that road player.

Also tournament teams won’t be as well prepared against our unique back court as conference teams are.

Additionally we will play hard in those games. We don’t always play hard in these conference road games.

My only worry is what we do if Malik Monk just doesn’t show up.

I certainly hope you are right. For some reason, we can’t seem to hit shots, even open shots, until 10 minutes of the first half have passed.

Impressive win given how much we were down by and Monk’s poor shooting.

Briscoe gave us exactly the game he needed to. Especially when he was running point, his natural position.

Fox started slow and finished strong.

Hawkins kept us in it when everyone else was asleep at the wheel.

Willis is become a serviceable defender almost overnight.

You have to admit this team never quits fighting. The early misses were not bad shots…Monk seemed short on his shot all day. These cats make it interesting :).
    GO CATS !!

“It wasn’t pretty”seems to be the phrase after each game lately.

I’ll take ugly wins all day. Especially on the road in the SEC.

agree and usually that catches up to you eventually. Only good thing out of all of them is “but it was a win”.

It will all depend on the matchups we face in the tourney. If we get a good to great zone team we are in trouble. If we get a team that can shoot, luckily there are not many of those, and they have a great shooting night we are in trouble. I am most worried about the games where teams have several days to prepare, so the sweet 16 or Final 4 games would be where we need a great matchup for us. One day to get ready for us should be to our favor unless we get like a Cuse team that plays a good zone. Look at the undefeated season, we lost in game were Wisc had time to prepare and they did a great job, had we played Wisc in Elite 8 we beat them.

I agree about the matchups but I want to play a zone team.

When I team plays zone against us it allows us to put Briscoe in the middle of the floor and hide his shooting deficiency which is really the only weakness in his game.

Well, if Monk is on we beat anyone no matter what. If he hits his 25-30 points we likely win. If he hits his average we can probably hang woth anyone. Less than his average wont beat an elite 8 final four team, unless someone else goes off and we play excellent all around. This team is turning into a good team again.
