Luke Winn of SI.com came out with his weekly power rankings and looking at where are the elite team in the country. Kentucky checked in at No. 6 this week behind Michigan State, Oklahoma, Kansas, Maryland and Iowa State. In a glaring stat though, Winn points out the following:
I watched all 22 of Ulis’s catch-and-shoot attempts on film and just one has come on a post-up kick-out; all the others came on passes from fellow guards. This is the most rare action in Kentucky’s offense
That’s a horrible, horrible stat. Sure, the offense is more of the dribble-drive this year, but when the ball goes into the post, Ulis needs to relocate and Lee/Poythress/Skal need to look for the assist if the first move isn’t there. Winn gives some more stats on Ulis and the struggles offensively (which will change as the season goes on). Last year 36% of his shots were off the catch for 1.55 points per attempt. This year it’s just 28.6% for .41 points per attempt.
