While you were sleeping — or not sleeping — the first KenPom ratings of the 2020-21 season dropped, a beautiful distraction from life’s problems. Kentucky is No. 11 in the inaugural ratings after finishing last season No. 29. Pomeroy rates the Cats’ offense No. 13 in the country and defense No. 18.

Considering that, save Keion Brooks, this is an entirely new team, it’s hard to take these ratings too seriously, but Pomeroy knows way more about this stuff than I do, so here’s his top 20:

Kentucky’s schedule has yet to be released, but Pomeroy does have two games in ink: the CBS Sports Classic vs. UCLA on Dec. 19 and the Big 12/SEC Challenge vs. Texas. Right now, he’s projecting Kentucky to win both. The Cats are his top rated team in the SEC, followed by Tennessee (No. 20), Florida (No. 24), and LSU (No. 37).

Again, lots of numbers and no basketball to base it on yet, but it’s more fun than refreshing election maps, so check out the rest at KenPom.com.

However, KenPom has them pre-season #1 in their “Best Hair” ratings.

Maybe it’s me, but how can a rating system that’s entirely results driven, have a preseason rating?
