Kentucky listed at No. 3 in way-too-early 2018 CBB rankings

We’re still about an hour and a half from the 2017-18 National Champion being crowned, yet we’ve already seen our first series of preseason rankings for the 2018-19 basketball season.

NBC Sports is the most prominent name to release their way-too-early rankings, and the Kentucky Wildcats are sitting pretty in the top five.

They expect Kevin Knox, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Hamidou Diallo, and Jarred Vanderbilt to leave, with everyone else returning. They obviously recognize the moving parts with this roster when it comes to NBA decisions, and they still don’t even recognize the potential recruits possibly added a bit later in Ashton Hagans, EJ Montgomery, Brandon Williams, etc.

Nonetheless, check out their analysis:

3. KENTUCKY WILDCATS

  • Who’s gone: Kevin Knox*, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander*, Hamidou Diallo*, Jarred Vanderbilt*
  • Who do they add: Immanuel Quickley, Keldon Johnson, Tyler Herro
  • Projected starting lineup: Immanuel Quickley, Tyler Herro, Keldon Johnson, Wenyen Gabriel*, P.J. Washington*

As always, there are so many moving parts with this Kentucky team’s roster and who will end up leaving school. Everyone from Kentucky is going to declare, and at this point, I’m going to set the over-under for the number of players that leave at four: Knox, Gilgeous-Alexander, Diallo and Vanderbilt. We’ll see how that all plays out, but regardless of what happens, I think the combination of incoming backcourt talent and the remaining front court veterans is going to be a fun combination for Kentucky fans to watch.

Other notable rankings:

No. 1 Kansas

No. 4 Duke

No. 5 Tennessee

No. 7 Auburn

No. 11 North Carolina

No. 12 Louisville (lol)

No. 16 Mississippi State

No. 24 LSU

Five SEC teams listed, and four rivals beneath the Cats? I’ll take it.

I thought I was the only one with some basketball Acumen around here who is 100% confident and sure that Jarred will go pro.

How many of the experts “around here” were guaranteeing he wouldn’t even play? I remember a lot of people bashing him and saying he was using us and wouldn’t ever suit up. Same people who said the same thing about Hami last year.

How is UL no 12? They don’t even have 1 recruit committed!!!

They kinda have 1, they had a redshirt. Not sure if he was redshirt freshman or a transfer, but I think he’s supposed to be decent player

Looked him up. He’s a 6’10 PF transfer from UConn. He only averaged like 3pts a game

So right now Villanova looks like the Golden State Warriors, and according to this article they are losing one player, yet they expect 4 freshmen who were inconsistent at best going to the NBA? Sounds like some pro scouts need to get their heads examined.

Nova is dominant. Unselfish. It is this type of “team” that wins championships.

Not a “me” first, for my NBA dream, then team second.

It seems to be so different than here, lately.

JC is a great coach, just coach UK to to the title. Get players that give a shid about UK.

The journey will put players in the NBA.

Matthews covered the MOP. 31 points.

Kansas, Nova. Everyone else. Hopefully, we’ll have enough to up with those two.

Another double digit loss team and no Final Four next year for the 8 million dollar man. You have to love the experts that put UK in the top 5 every year in preseason. Unfortunately, UK is always overrated and underachieves.

At least we didn’t hire hookers, pay players and have a banner removed – how much was Pitino being paid again…?

Really curious to see how things will shake out when the NBA lifts its one-and-done rule.

Righteous1 a joke. Louisville #11 another joke. Righteous1 ville fan.

WAIT!! ESPN says Duke is the “heavy favorite”, “top3 guys, and 4 of top 10. Plus K? Who’s beating them?”
This article obviously doesn’t know it’s “Duke and everyone else”, that is until they lose and everyone pretends it never happened

In all seriousness, if that list was accurate ( it’s not) it doesn’t bode well for college basketball. Outside the projected top 5, KState at 10, UL at 11, UCLA, Maryland, VaTech, FlaSt?

Not a great projected power team season

Remember “how good Arizona State was” last year? Quit taking shit so seriously. This is just for fun. Its April.
