Harrison missed long jumper. UK forces TO.

Andrew loses ball on drive, ball stays with Kentucky. Team moving noticeably slower still. Not as much bounce.

UK near turnover, gets ball back, shot clock violation.

3 for Hawkins. DR pushes ball, Ullis picks up D. DR turnover.

UK misses, DR in half-court offense.

Possibly tie-up no call. DR airballs a 3, under 16 timeout.

Looks like all the guys are gassed and ready to go home. Less smiling on court and bench. Both teams still going, but feels more like the exhibition game it is.

Ullis and Hawkins seem most in the game still on both ends (just my opinion).

We’re not seeing as many quick, crisp passes, or guys getting open for lobs and layups. Some of it is surely DR blocking out better, but mostly just the fatigue. (6 games in 8 days plus as much beach and pool as the players can probably manage.)

  7. HanOfTheBluegrass

DR cuts to basket, Lee recovers on D to alter shot. DR stays with it, gets to free throw line with foul.

DR gets under basket again, UK recovers, missed shot, UK turnover, layup for DR.

    • HanOfTheBluegrass
      2:20 pm August 17, 2014 Permalink

      Ullis layup and one.

On D, UK can’t seem to prevent the pass into the paint, but they keep getting back just in time to prevent an easy dunk or layup. On O, Ullis controlling pace making good passes. UK not rebounding quite as well as earlier in trip on either end.

    • HanOfTheBluegrass
      2:20 pm August 17, 2014 Permalink

Uk misses another long 3. (At least 4 in last 5 possessions)

3 for DR at other end.

Han what do you think of Willis’ play today…can he continue to produce?

    • HanOfTheBluegrass
      2:23 pm August 17, 2014 Permalink

I think he can easily play 8-10 minutes and contribute. He’s doing better than Booker offensively and D might be a push. Hard to say since there’s more height in the bigs on squad 2. But if Lyles isn’t able to be ready or healthy all year, we’re still going to have plenty of depth 3-5.

I think Willis and Hawkins’ play this trip means they’ll be playing for sure this year. Cal said the other day he envisions 2 squads (probably with Lyles and WCS), and then 2 subs, one a guard (Hawkins) and one a big (Willis, probably, though possibly Lyles or Lee if Willis plays the 3 or Poythress the 4).

    • HanOfTheBluegrass

First squad back in. UK loses rebound on 2nd DR foul shot. DR ball.

Poythress holds his ground against DR drive, goes to floor, DR turns over, UK fast break.

UK runs, Dakari streaks into paint, gets fouled.

    • HanOfTheBluegrass

UK fouls. Martinez at line. Makes first. Makes second.

Harrison (Andrew) pushes it into the paint, makes tough floater.

UK gets ball back with Booker. Dakari with it inside, out to Andrew. Andrew resets, drives, bumped and fouled.

    • HanOfTheBluegrass

Still first squad with Lee for Poythress.

DR fighting for it inside, UK holds, out of bounds to DR. 9 minutes left.

DR drives, Sanatana fouled by Lee, goes to line.

DR misses. UK brings it up, Dakari swarmed inside, UK keeps ball on swat out.

Booker misses jumper. DR misses, UK misses 3.

DR gets a layup. Sloppy, tired D. UK coming up floor slow, little movement by both team.

      7:22 left.

4 guys set to come in but not Poythress.

Loose ball, DR running, Sosa passes to JMM and fouled by a Harrison.

Block by Towns, UK runs, can’t get the 3 on 1, but Ullis gets rebound and resets offence.

  17. HanOfTheBluegrass

The Aaron 3 had Ullis at the top passing back and forth between the twins to find Aaron open. May see that a lot this year to close out games.

    • HanOfTheBluegrass

Dakari in for Lee (didn’t even notice when Lee came in).

    UK 62-56.

Ullis misses 3. DR running. No call on a walk. Ullis pestering DR pg. DR swings it, Liz gets a 3.

    UK 62-59 with 3:32 left.

UK taking jump shots against the zone. Maybe no energy to get in paint and rebound. Gonna need to get a basket here.

    • HanOfTheBluegrass
      2:48 pm August 17, 2014 Permalink

And yeah, since the 2nd squad came back in without Poythress, the squad system is done this game.

UK has Ullis, twins, Dakari and Lee on the floor, I think. Same team that closed out yesterday. UK ball.

3 UK players in double figs, Ullis with 12, Towns with 10, Willis with 10.

Don’t you love that every team has shot more fts than uk every game of the trip?

    • HanOfTheBluegrass
      2:49 pm August 17, 2014 Permalink

Really, that’s mostly us not having much defense in at this point. We’re hacking more after losing a man. Both numbers should improve after this trip.

We’ve also noticeably fouled more in the 2nd set of games, facing DR twice and the French team a 2nd time. Which is to be expected as we tire out and the opposition is better.

  20. HanOfTheBluegrass
    2:51 pm August 17, 2014 Permalink

UK loses it on a shot clock violation/possible steal by DR. Violation called as DR goes for dunk at other end.

Ullis lost it and Andrew was slow to get to it, lost it. Bilas says Andrew’s done that twice today, obviously a little off and tired.

    • HanOfTheBluegrass
      2:51 pm August 17, 2014 Permalink

JMM spins, travels trying to get around Lee. Dakari’s there to back him up, too.

    • HanOfTheBluegrass
      2:53 pm August 17, 2014 Permalink

UK sloppy, Aaron drives, misses. Dakari misses put back.

Scramble, DR ends up with it, brings it up, calls time out.

      2:05 to go, UK 62-59.

(Garcia hasn’t played this game, and announcers saying he probably wishes he was in. Guessing he’s saving himself for the upcoming games. DR does have a guard who didn’t play our first game, though, who’s done well.)

Andrew drives, lobs, no one there. 2 DR guys on floor. (Both back up) DR brings it up.

    • HanOfTheBluegrass
      2:55 pm August 17, 2014 Permalink

Ullis misses front in. Should’ve been a lane violation, but it’s an exhibition.

We’re clearly winded and we’re seeing two teams that had time to adjust and good enough players for that 2nd chance to matter (compared to the PR team).

Also, the DR team hadn’t even been fully together until just before our first game.
