Kentucky jumps back into the AP Top 25

@KentuckyMBB

@KentuckyMBB

As expected, Kentucky returned to the AP Top 25 after their comeback win vs. West Virginia. The Cats are No. 21 in the latest poll, which is topped by Villanova, Virginia, and Purdue.

Kentucky is one of four SEC teams in the rankings. Auburn leads the way at No. 11 followed by Tennessee at No. 18, Kentucky at No. 21, and Florida at No. 23. Because I know you’re curious, after losing back-to-back games, North Carolina fell from No. 10 to No. 19. Even though Duke lost at home to Virginia yesterday, they stayed at No. 4.

RK TEAM RECORD PTS

Of course puke stayed at #4…shouldn’t they have moved up after a loss?

Yes especially after losing to #2. But losing to #2 will help their resume and once again have them play in their own backyard throughout the tournament.

Duke and UNC lose at home, stay put i n the polls. WVU loses at home to Kentucky, and drops EIGHT! Can you imagine losing to Kentucky?? They’re lucky they didn’t fall out of the rankings completely

      These polls are utter nonsense

Rixter, I’m genuinely curious. Did you miss the part where UNC dropped nine spots from 10 last week 10 19 this week?

So, Duke and UNC both lose at home and don’t drop at all. UNC is still ranked ahead of us, even though they’ve lost more games than UK has.

UNC dropped 9 spots. Did they update this post, or am I crazy?

Yes, they updated. UNC is still ranked higher, even though they have more losses.

Didn’t we drop a bunch for losing to Kansas on a neutral site, but Duke loses at home and doesn’t drop a lick?

We dropped a few spots after WINNING…we beat ul and UGA and dropped.

Working our way back to the top 10. It started in the second half Sat.

I don’t waste my time worrying about other teams, but a quick look reveals that Duke is also #4 in KenPom, BPI, and RPI, all of which are statistic-based ratings.

So rather than whine about pollsters’ eternal crush on Duke, show some love for your Cats’ season-defining win at WVU that allowed them to claw back into the Top 25. Go Big Blue!

WVU has lost 4 of 5, and has only dropped 10 spots in that stretch.

The voters in the polls are like the NCAA, clear bias towards certain programs just like certain hatred for others.

Why the hell is UNC in the rankings? They have a worse record than UK, they have lost 2 in a row to unranked teams (one being at home), they lost to WOFFORD, their “signature” win was @ #20 Tenn, and they’ve been held to under 50 pts twice this season. WHY!?

  11. Ben27
    1:31 pm January 29, 2018 Permalink

North Carolina lost 5 games (two at home) and they were ranked 10th. They lose again and they drop to 19th. KY lost their fifth game and drop totally out of the top 25. KY lost most of their games with players out with injuries. No consideration was given for this fact. There is definitely bias in the polls. Only matters around tourney time!

WVA has lost 4 of the last 5. Kansas actually lost last week and climbed a spot. You could pick apart 90% of these team’s resumes. OSU, who’s only signature win is vs MSU (who has only one top 50 RPI win), lost to Penn State at home and only dropped 4 spots. Bottom line, UK never should’ve dropped out in the first place.

Cats have a few real tests remaining this year. As long as they continue to win the games they are supposed to win and maybe grab 2 of the ones they may not be favored to win (@auburn, @A&M, @arkansas, & @florida) then we’ll be in a fine position come seeding time. if we can end the season somewhere in the 10-15 range rankings wise, then I think that would be a fair position. Would love to see us sneak into a 3 seed for madness.

    • Catsby80

‘Cats still have 7 games against teams in the top 50 RPI. That is a serious opportunity to prove yourself to the committee. Let’s get it done, boys.

    • Catsby80

I’m sorry, 8 games (missouri twice) against top 50 RPI teams.

I agree with you Catsby. But if that happens and we make a 3 seed, it will be the worst one imaginable. We all know it

    • Catsby80
      2:47 pm January 29, 2018 Permalink

fair point, but i’d prefer to avoid the 4 seed if possible. i’d love nothing more than to be the 3 seed with kansas as the 2 or maybe xavier as the 2. i’d prefer to avoid duke, uva, and purdue if possible.

    • henderblue
      3:21 pm January 29, 2018 Permalink

Agreed. That would be a good draw. I think we beat Kansas in a rematch. Xavier a little over rated imo. Like Cal says look for us in there somewhere with W.Va. Probably Wichita St again, although they don’t worry me.

      We are ranked No. 1
      Total Wins
      Winning percentage
Most 20 game, 30 game, 35 game, and 38 game win seasons
      Most ncaa tourn appearances
      Most ncaa championship game appearances
      Ncaa tournament wins
All I’ve got time for right now.

To be fair, I should have included we’re only No. 2 in ncaa titles; but, we’re the only school to win the NCAA and the NIT multiple times.
So we beat WVa on their home floor, and they’re 6 spots ahead of us with the same record…polls are bogus.

UNC loses 2 and so does WVU….WVU was ranked 7th (ahead of UNC by 3 spots) and now out? UNC loses 2 and ranked 19th? And systematically cheated academically…..but that another story.
