Kentucky is one of USA Today’s “6 Hardest Coaching Jobs In Sports”

USA Today Sports celebrated Christmas Eve this morning by ranking the six hardest jobs in all of sports. Head coach of the Kentucky basketball program made the list, to the surprise of absolutely no one.  Here’s how it looks and what USA Today had to say about John Calipari’s seat:

1. Dallas Cowboys

2. New York Yankees

3. Kentucky Wildcats – John Calipari has the hardest job in college basketball because while he might have hauled in arguably the most talented freshman class in history, he’s challenged with convincing a group of teenagers to gel and establish a cohesiveness needed to create championship chemistry. Bad habits die hard, and we’re seeing McDonald’s All-Americans who were used to being go-to players in high school tasked with reassessing their subconsciously selfish views and turning them into a selfless perspective. 40-0 was always an outrageous prediction, and now we’re seeing that the maturation process for even the most talented group takes time.- Scott Gleeson

The writer focuses on Calipari’s task of getting the current team to come together, failing to mention Cal having to do it with a rabid fan base that expects the best each and every year. We people are crazy, and that doesn’t make things any easier on the head coach at UK.

Indiana also made USA Today’s list, but for football. The basketball coaching job at IU is easy because the Hoosiers celebrate every minor accomplishment.

Help me buy Laetter’s 1992 Duke jersey. We’ll have a big, public party and set it on fire. We’ll make a day of it!

So, the list is compiled of biggest jobs in their respective sports, and than they go off and put IU football at 6….What? IU football has ZERO expectation. They should have put list of places it is impossible to win.

Got stuck on a broken down train between Swansea, Wales and London, England 30-minutes from the start of a championship Football game between the “Arsenal” and “Manchester”… (was on a weekend lay over from a business trip) with 98% Manchester United Football Fans ROCK’N the train because it was not going to get to the game on time. We arrived in Swansea (where the stadium was) with about 5 minutes to play in the game…. WOW!

Believe me… I learned very quickly what a “hooligan” was… and I’d put that fan-base right behind BBN… they are NUTS! AB SO LUTE LEY NUTTTTY!

      On…On…U of K

Why would you choose such a disrespectful picture of Coach Calipari for this piece? John is a great man, and has done great things to resurrect our basketball and football programs. This is worse than what you all did to Jeff and Bethany, who are a lovely and true-blue couple. Does it make you all feel better about yourselves to belittle others? I feel sorry for you.

I am probably considered a “hillbilly fan” because I live in Eastern Kentucky, but at least I can spell.

#6 – what the hell are you talking about?

And I agree with #4, no idea why Indiana football would be anywhere near this list.

From one UK fan to another, I don’t think we should be talking trash about another football program.

The fact that Alabama Football isn’t on this list means that you gotta take this list with a grain of salt.

Stupid list. The inclusion of IU FB and exclusion of Saban is asinine. For me…

    6. Man U- personally I have no idea, but soccer fans are bat shit crazy and this seems to be the largest/most rabid fan base

    5. Cowboys- huge following and Jerry wants to win, but his tolerance with sub-par performance keeps it higher on the list.

    4. USSR Gymnastics- do I really need to say much here?

    3. Yankees- probably lesser now that the big man is gone, still major pressure to succeed.

    2. Kentucky- We don’t just demand wins, we want them by 30.

    1. Bama Football- Roll Damn Tide thise people are as crazy as us, with greater numbers.

So much pity for the shoe salesman, give me a break. What is his annual salary? Good thing he can sell shoes, gets out coached most all games. How many of his teams have “overachieved” ??
