The Associated Press released its 2015-16 preseason college basketball poll this afternoon and your University of Kentucky Wildcats are the second ranked team in the country.

North Carolina is the No. 1 team in the land, ahead of the Cats, Maryland, Kansas and Duke to round out the top five.

Other notables include Kyle Wiltjer’s Zags at No. 9, Indiana at No. 15, and Wisconsin at No. 16. Vanderbilt and LSU are the SEC’s only other schools at No. 18 and 21.

You can see the entire rankings here.

Remind me why North Carolina isn’t banned? Can we vacate the title before they win it?

UNC is the ND of basketball. It can do what ever it wants and get away with it.

I agree!! Why all of the silence around the NCAA / UNC investigation. If any other school had 20 years of academic fraud they would have already received he death penalty!

Some of us are capable of talking about and supporting both. I know it’s a difficult concept for some of you to handle. Maybe some day you too will be able to talk about two subjects during the same month.

According to UL radio this morning, the Cards big win over Bellermine yesterday, has Drew Deener and his cronies that UL will be much better than first thought.

Good. It will make it funnier to watch when they prove to be as awful as originally expected.

They will be lucky to go 8-10 in conference.

I can’t wait for them to walk into Rupp undefeated. Ulis will have the game of his life

Love the cats, but I feel like we’re too high right now. I’d honestly prefer to see us be in the 8-10 range right now so that we don’t have all eyes on us from the get go. To be honest though, preseason polls don’t really matter much. I just wish one year they would let us earn the ranking instead of getting hyped so early.

We’re Kentucky. All eyes will be on us anyways. I think top to bottom- no one has the talent we have. I feel like were right where we should be….although you are correct about that these polls don’t really matter. It sure is nice to be #1 though.

BigAbes4UK….don’t care about now. I like to be #1 on April 5.

Sorry- but I do. I like being #1 all year long and in April. You can have it both ways you know

That bullshit! how in the heck can N.C be ahead of us? Well a couple of weeks will beat Duke by 20 and that will end the debate about who is number 1. They always screw us .

While taking Chester suggestion to call ESPN to complain about UK M Basketball NOT being on TV tonight (sorry Matt), was told by rep..Marquis that NO ONE wanted to see UK play Ottawa which will be a route. Suggested he make a visit to Lexington. Lexington is not the whole nation.. Asked for clarification of the SEC Alternate channel and reminded him SEC is NOT broadcast over the whole nation, thus the name South Eastern Conference. Also a nice thank you for going to bat for them in the beginning when they were trying to get picked up by cable…UK is “ONLY” ranked #2 and can’t get picked up by a SEC Alternate that has nothing schedule. Way to go ESPN. Interesting that the Time Warner just picked up the SEC +. Oh well we tried…Go CATS

I believe NC was # 1 and UK #2 going into the ’11-’12 season. Think that worked out just fine!
