Kentucky is atop Sports Illustrated’s SEC Power Rankings

We are less than 100 days away from basketball season, which means outlets across the internet are starting to put out preseason power rankings. Today’s comes to us from Sports Illustrated’s Eric Single, who ranks Kentucky No. 1 in the SEC, right ahead of Florida.

“The Wildcats’ weaknesses (namely, outside shooting and proven production up front) may not look much different from the 2018–19 team’s, but there’s just too much talent coming in to knock them off their preseason pedestal.”

Like most of us, Single expects big things from Ashton Hagans,

“…While it takes a lot of projection to get fired up about the return of big men Nick Richards and EJ Montgomery, scrappy guard Ashton Hagans could be in for a special season as a sophomore. His defensive work ethic should free up combo guard Tyrese Maxey and wings Kahlil Whitney, Keion Brooks and Johnny Juzang to focus on playmaking.”

Let’s hope so (also, I hope people keep sleeping on sophomore EJ Montgomery). LSU, Auburn, and Alabama round out the top five. Check out the whole list at SI.com, or just enjoy Hagans’ highlights from last season.

I don’t worry about outside shooting as much as a weak frontcourt. Blackshear would’ve made the difference this year.
