Could Kentucky add former North Carolina center Walker Kessler to the frontcourt in 2021-22? According to Dan McDonald of Rivals.com, the Wildcats are “firmly in the mix.”

After putting his name in the transfer portal back on March 22, McDonald is reporting that Kentucky is in strong contention to land the former five-star recruit, joining the likes of Auburn, Gonzaga, Michigan and Tennessee in hot pursuit.

“I’m told Kentucky is firmly in the mix for UNC transfer Walker Kessler,” McDonald reported. “Auburn, Gonzaga, Michigan and Tennessee are some of the others in the mix for the former 5-star.”

Kentucky was also floated as a potential option for the former McDonald’s All-American when he originally put his name in the portal, with UNC beat writer Brendan Marks grouping UK in with Auburn and Gonzaga for his services.

“Per sources, Auburn, Gonzaga and Kentucky will be in the mix for Kessler,” Marks said at the time.

As a freshman, the 7-foot-1 center averaged only 4.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest, but finished the season strong, scoring in double figures in five of the Tarheels’ last ten games, including a 16-point, 12-rebound, 8-block performance vs. Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament. The former five-star center was ranked No. 22 overall in the 2020 recruiting class (247 Sports Composite) and originally chose UNC over Duke, Auburn, and Michigan.

That’s what we were repeatedly told when we thought we were “in the mix” for Powell.

I’m personally just hoping Jackson actually does come back if not projected lotto.

ACC athleticism is not SEC athleticism.

I don’t see the need for another big. Frontcourt is already crowded. UK still needs a driving PG.

You still don’t turn him down if you can get him. Especially with the way he ended the season.

Yeah the monster game he had against Notre Dame. ND always making bugs look like All Americans. That was Sarr’s big game too.

If Chet Holmgren picks Gonzaga would he still go there I wonder?

Doesn’t seem like Brooks is anxious to return, and Jackson returning would be a shock. Bring in Kessler and redshirt Ware. Seems like no brainer to me— well ok, Cal does not like to redshirt players.

If he’s actually utilized the right way then yes bring him along, though down low is crowded, talent is there. With him or not they’re going to grab a PG

Mintz and another transfer PG pushed Askew from starter to 3rd string. Get the 5 star seven footer with experience all day long to give us a solid veteran two headed center.

I heard from my sister’s stepson’s half brother’s half sister that Willie Wackadoodle the 8 foot freshman PG is reclassifying to play for UK next year! Woot!

We have room for him and a PG. we need another center that is skilled. Oscar needs a backup.

He will end up at TN or Gonzaga Cal has lost his edge in recruiting. We need a point guard and another shooting guard.

So you’re saying that Cal has lost his edge in recruiting a big man while also saying we need guards. Interesting take on cal

Cal literally got 2 of the top 3 transfers for next season in Grady and Tshiebwe. Recruiting isn’t just high school anymore.

And there are more than 1,000 names in the transfer portal. And he got the most coveted ones.

It’d be a nice addition but I don’t see it happening. He’ll end up at UT, Michigan, or Gonzaga. Hopefully Jackson comes back as he’s outside the lottery the mock drafts at the moment. We’ll see….

I’d say TN gets him & Barnes will have them rolling with Powell & him but will b slower & that’s fine by me . & I truly believe Mintz comes back & I believe we get Carr , I think Cal has known & Askew knew & seen writing on the wall .. Idk what to think about Brooks & Jackson but have a hard time thinking Jackson will return but I’ve seen crazier things I guess, we shall c ..! I do know we will b a hell of a lot better than this season . IF we get Carr & Mintz or just Carr & put him out there with Grady , that will b LETHAL!!!

Just watched UNC’s new coach Hubert Davis introduction press conference and he was asked about Kessler. His response was he is going to call him tonight and wants him to come back and continue being a tarheel. My prediction is he will continue his playing time at Chapel Hill.

Cahills will probably sleep with coach K and him to get him to go to Duke.
