How about a surprising basketball offer to close out your Wednesday evening?

Kentucky has extended a scholarship offer to 2021 three-star guard Brandin Podziemski out of Delafield, WI.

“After a great Zoom call with Coach John Calipari and Coach Joel Justus I am blessed to receive an offer from the University of Kentucky!” Podziemski said.

Podziemski, a 6-foot-6, 195-pound shooting guard out of St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy and Phenom University-Team Herro, also holds offers from Arizona State, Boise State, DePaul, and Marquette, among others.

A sharpshooting lefty, Podziemski averaged 27.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.7 steals, 3.6 assists and 1.2 blocks per contest as a junior. Over the course of his last two seasons, the new Kentucky target shot 39 percent from three.

Podziemski joins Patrick Baldwin Jr., Jaden Hardy, Hunter Sallis, Daimion Collins, Moussa Diabate, and Bryce Hopkins as seniors to earn offers from Kentucky, along with four-star commit Nolan Hickman.

Cal been going after a lot of white kids lately. Had Herro last year, Askew for this season and now this kid.

Kid is underrated, should probably atleast be a 4-star prospect, just like our PG Commit Nolan Hickman should probably be a 5-star prospect, but all of the summer camp circuits were cancelled which kept alot of kids from rising that normally would. I credit this staff for finding kids who may be under the radar, but clearly have the skill and hunger to play at UK and be great. I think if this kid decides to except the challenge, he will be a really good player for us.

Good looking stroke and touch. Solid athletically. Likely 3-4 year player which is a plus.

When was the last time Cal signed a 3-star that wasn’t from Kentucky?

I think this is illustrative of Cal’s sort of shift in recruiting. Winter athletes getting an extra year of eligibility, the influence of the G League on elite high school players, the possibility of the one-and-done going away, the likelihood that universal, immediate eligibility for transfers, the need for outside shooting…It all contributes. Guys like this have a lot more value than they did 3, 5, 8 years ago. I think you’ll see this more often going forward, and I trust the coaching staff’s judgement.

I saw a couple of pigs flying around my neighborhood. Cal offers a 3 star guy. Unreal.

Perhaps he’s great friends with Patrick Baldwin? They are both from Wisconsin.

This is where the NBA is moving and consequently, the college game— more emphasis on ball movement and shooting, not as much on quickness off the dribble and getting your own. Look at the success of Herro and Duncan Robinson— better learn how to shoot the three and mid-range floater. Good recruit and his star rating will rise quickly after Cal offer!
