Kentucky looked absolutely terrible in its season-opening loss to Duke in the Champions Classic. The Cats were manhandled by the Blue Devils for 40 minutes, on both sides of the court, until the final score of 118-84.
It was an unimaginable loss for college basketball’s second-ranked team, especially after how well we saw them play in the Bahamas. We were led to believe this is a special group, but Tuesday night’s game was anything but special. It was an abomination, and the worst loss of the John Calipari era of UK basketball.
Looking back at what went wrong, defense is to blame. Offense is to blame too. Duke being really, really good is also to blame. The only positive thing to say about the loss is Reid Travis and Keldon Johnson came to play. Everyone else could’ve done much, much more.
