This has been a pattern since 2015. We start the season highly ranked, and then begin a precipitous decline in the polls. Earlier in Cal’s tenure, it was the opposite. We would out perform our initial ranking and finish the year more highly ranked. That’s the kind of progression that is the mark of a highly competitive team. In recent years, we start the season highly ranked and finish lower. Either our initial ranking is inflated based on reputation and past performance, or we are simply under performing. Maybe a little of both. In any event, it is not a pattern that inspires confidence.

Nothing more useless than a November AP basketball poll.

Honestly, I have watched a LOT of ball already in the young season. I’ve seen WKU and UL three times, an UK twice. I’ve seen very few teams we can beat; well, Morehead. Right now we are maybe 3rd in the state, and I haven’t seen Bellarmine and Georgetown College.
Really, who could we beat playing the way we did against Richmond, and the Spiders didn’t shoot well in that game; hopefully, some of that was our defense.

Not sure anyone is beating Gonzaga, they look really good so far.

Once again, a roster with no fewer than 6 legitimate NBA talents struggles to find its early-season footing. It’s the same almost every year we start 3 or more freshman. Normally our schedule is so littered with December cupcakes we can hang around the top 15 heading into conference play…… not this year. We may have a 2020 losing record, and dive into a very tough SEC schedule in 2021. Time will tell. Hard to get a read on this team.

Boston is a ball hog. Askew needs to come off the bench behind Mintz. At this point, run the offense through the two guys on our team with experience, Sarr and Mintz.

    2 things:

    1. The AP makes no sense with their reasoning. So apparently Richmond was so bad that they dropped UK 10 spots. No respect right? But then respected them enough to come in at 19? This is why writers have no business with a poll period. Forget the polls. Bring back the RPI for good.

    2. If Gonzaga is going to lose it would be this week against a very strong and physical WVU team. They don’t need help in the post. They are big enough to guard anyone with our help. Low scoring and WVU could knock them off. If not, barring a major upset Gonzaga could go undefeated in regular season.

They have a chance to do this every year since they don’t play many good teams especially in conference.
