Kentucky drops out of the AP Top 25

We all knew it was coming. After losses to Kansas and Georgia Tech last week, Kentucky is no longer an AP Top 25 team. The new poll is out and for the first time since 2018, the Cats did not make the cut. They also did not receive any votes.

How bad is Kentucky in the eyes of the pundits? Andy Katz did not include the Cats in his Power 36 rankings, and Jeff Goodman tweeted he’d probably rank them around 75:

Ouch. Deserved.

Couldn’t care less. These guys don’t just play like they’ve never met, they play like they’ve never played basketball. Fix the team. Worry about rankings later.

How are we in the top 50?

Mintz has to feel odd since his old school is ranked WAY ahead of us..

He has to feel even more odd watching a kid that can’t dribble play in front of him.

Since 2015, we typically start the season highly ranked and then begin a descent in the polls. This year we started ranked 10th and, now, only four games under our belt, we are no longer ranked. We seem to be getting better at being bad. Katz doesn’t have us in his top 36 teams and Goodman has us at 75th. I guess top recruiting classes and players drafted into the NBA have no bearing. Cal has been cruising on his prior success, but all the hype and Cal-speak loses its luster as disappointing seasons and embarrassing losses pile up.

Where do we go from here?

I think we need to just scrap the rotation and start with the veteran players. Show the 5-stars they start at 1-star until proven otherwise. Sarr, mintz, Clarke, Jackson, and keion once he’s back(next game or two hopefully) should be the bulk of the minutes. Let the other freshman role play until proven otherwise. First subs should be fletcher, ware, Allen but only limited minutes until proven otherwise. The pieces are there but I think the want-to in order get the “5 stars” to the NBA needs to take a back seat to experience and performance in the short time being.

This is what ages Cal, not the program, it’s having to teach all the fundamentals, how to play hard, how to tie your shoes etc.. stop with mostly all freshman, it doesn’t work any better than the traditional way.

First time since all the way back to 2018?? Lol. This sentence shows how the fanbase no longer cares about this program. When is the NBA draft? I’m getting ready for all the lottery picks, just like next year… oh wait.
So now we’re not even good on draft night? Well, we still have the most #1 recruiting classes. Take that Villanova, Kansas, mich St and Gonzaga!!!

I miss COLLEGE basketball in Lexington. Cal has transformed the Greatest Tradition in College Basketball into an advanced AAU team whose stated purpose is to prepare 17 and 18 year-olds for the NBA draft. The one and done system is a crap shoot, Cal rolls the dice and hopes he’ll get a John Wall or an Anthony Davis. Truth is – those are few and far between. Cal has no shot at getting solid 3 or 4 star players (and too many UK fans thumb their noses at these types of players) but truth is, championships are often won by these solid guys who stay 3 and 4 years. But no such player will look at Kentucky. Why would he? He’s not going to play as a freshmen, he’ll get recruited over each year and some hotshot 17-18 year-old will get all the minutes. Cal’s Gold Standard program is made out of fools gold. Bring back COLLEGE basketball to Lexington!

That’s what I have been saying. Just sick of Cal and his ego. It’s a good thing that fans aren’t allowed. Seats would be easy to get now. Never thought this would happen to UK. Cal and his ego needs to go.

We may not be ranked again this year. Very possible. In fact, unless this team grows up quickly, we may not have a winning season. They are that dysfunctional.

Dropping out is no big deal. Just like last year they were heavily overrated when season started. I believe this team is probably worse than last year.
