Kentucky Defeats Georgia 71-60 to Advance in the SEC Tournament

briscoe-georgia

After an uncharacteristically fast start from the Wildcats, Kentucky cruised to a double-digit victory over Georgia, their third and most decisive victory over the Bulldogs this season.

For the second straight game, Malik Monk couldn’t buy a basket.  Monk’s only two points came from a dunk, but Isaiah Briscoe and De’Aaron Fox provided plenty of offense from the backcourt, scoring 20 points apiece.

In the post, Derek Willis (11) and Bam Adebayo (10) combined for 21 rebounds, but they were more impressive on the defensive end.  Adebayo held Yante Maten to just 12 points and Willis blocked 4 shots.  J.J. Frazier was the Cats’ Kryptonite all year, but not tonight.  He got hot late in the first half, but was contained the rest of the game, finishing with just 15 points.

The Cats will face the winner of Alabama/South Carolina tomorrow at 1:00 ET.

Calipari’s press conference is right around the corner.  You can watch it here.  Until then, check out today’s box score.

If you told me before the game Monk would have two total points I would have been really nervous.

at least Monk rebounded to contribute….oh wait…..just saw he only had 2 but I thought Cal said he would bench him for no rebounds, guess 2 is enough. ell at least he contributed by getting others involved….oh wait….1 assist….Just giving him a hard time for his stupid comment about how it is bad news for everyone coming up. Shut up and play the games, you are a Freshman player at UK where 1000’s have come before you.

Overall a good effort start to finish by the Cats today. I’ll take a double digit win any day. Pretty much everyone contributed in some way. On to the semi-finals! Go Cats!

It Willis had jorts-like NCAA tournament I could see him getting a late second round draft pick. A 6-9 consistent rebounder, shot blocker, and great shooter?

Good to see this team playing better defense. MONK no show and we still win double digits and controlled the entire game. He wont always be a nonfactor but we know how to win without him.

To win this game by double figures with Monk only having 2 points says a lot about this team and the fight they have. The finally kicked that habit of getting in a hole early, too. I like the direction this team is heading. If we play the way we did today and just get SOME production from Monk, we are going to be a tough out in the tournament. Go Cats.

Or did you mean someone who only had 2 rebounds in 23 minutes? Glad we had them both in the game.
