Would you have believed me if I told you that Kentucky would beat a top ten team by eight without a single point from its bench? That’s what happened tonight in Rupp.
Kentucky’s five starters accounted for all 71 points, despite a poor shooting night from Tyler Herro (2-9 FG, 0-4 3PT FG) and a slow start from Keldon Johnson (four first half points). Nick Richards, Immanuel Quickley, Jemarl Baker, and EJ Montgomery played a combined 31 minutes, but were 0-7 from the floor. Scoring aside, the bench contributed in other ways, Richards turning in a career-high five blocks and EJ providing valuable minutes inside.
Beating a top-ten team on a bad shooting night and zero bench points? I’ll take it.
