Kentucky basketball opens with second-best national title odds for 2019-20

Vegas oddsmakers are busy releasing their official national title odds for the 2019-20 college basketball season, and the Kentucky Wildcats sit right near the top in just about all of them.

BetOnline recently published their latest title favorites, with Kentucky coming in at No. 2 in the nation behind only Michigan State.

The Wildcats checked in with 8/1 odds, just a touch behind 2019 Big Ten Player of the Year Cassius Winston and the Spartans at 7/1 overall.

Behind the top two programs? Three of Kentucky’s biggest rivals and recent foes: Duke at 9/1, along with Kansas and Memphis at 10/1.

Outside the top five, the defending champion Virginia Cavaliers come in at 11/1, North Carolina comes in at 14/1, Louisville and Maryland both come in at 16/1, and Florida comes in at 18/1

Here is a look at the entire list:

  • Michigan State +700
  • Kentucky +800
  • Duke +900
  • Kansas +1000
  • Memphis +1000
  • Virginia +1100
  • North Carolina +1400
  • Louisville +1600
  • Maryland +1600
  • Florida +1800
  • Gonzaga +2000
  • Villanova +2000
  • Michigan +2500

Caesars Palace also released their latest odds this afternoon, with the top two teams being the same. Only this time, Michigan State is a stronger favorite at 5/1 odds, and Kentucky also has slightly better odds with 7/1 overall.

Behind them? Kansas at 9/1 odds, Duke at 11/1, Memphis at 12/1, and North Carolina at 14/1.

What do you guys think? Fair?

I laugh at Sparty being the favorite. They had a better team last year and couldn’t get it done in their own backyard. Not saying Cats will win because I personally believe we won’t win another one with our current turnstyle system, but it’s clearly anybody’s year (again)

I agree with you. Duke and UK have had the numbers 1 and 2 recruiting class in the past 4 years, and neither team has made it to the Final Four.
Without Anthony Davis, a once in a life time player, Kentucky doesn’t win the 2012 Championship. Too many one-and-dones is not the winning combination.

Funny, dUKe’s Zion was by far more hyped than AD and yet they barely (with help from the refs) got past UCF. There are several teams you could name that had one player they don’t win without, Syracuse comes to mind immediately with Carmelo, in fact most teams (not all) probably have one player without whom they don’t win the title.

4ever, funny how so many pundits are like crickets in the back yard after this pUKe “team of the century “, – “can beat many NBA teams”, etc…. fell as they did and as you mentioned were lucky to get as far as they did.

Their own backyard? East Lansing to Minneapolis is a 9 1/2 hour drive.

You’re right Ridge Runner, ESPN handed them the trophy at the beginning of the season, but I wouldn’t call it lucky RR, we all saw what went on with the refs and that wasn’t luck.

I’m beginning to wonder how much worse the rest are versus how good we are. Don’t get me wrong… I love seeing our Cats thus high but damn I don’t see it.
