Kentucky basketball in the NBA Draft by the numbers

BrGk-suCQAA9c_T (1)

Since John Calipari came to Kentucky, the NBA Draft has been an infomercial for Kentucky basketball. Last night was no exception, with John Calipari finding his way onscreen throughout the night, Julius Randle and James Young going in the first round, and commentators already looking forward to next year’s UK-dominated draft class. How impressive has UK’s record in the draft been? Let’s break it down by the numbers.

112: The number of Kentucky players drafted by the NBA

36: The number of Kentucky players drafted in the first round

30: The number of NBA Draft picks who have played for John Calipari

24: The number of NBA Draft picks who have played for Calipari since 2008

19: The number of NBA Draft picks in the Calipari era at Kentucky

17: The number of NBA teams who currently have UK players on their roster

15: The number of first-round NBA Draft picks in the Calipari era at Kentucky

13: The number of one-and-done Succeed and Proceeders at Kentucky since Calipari became coach

7: The number of consecutive years John Calipari has had a player go in the top 10 of the NBA Draft

9: The number of lottery picks in the Calipari era at Kentucky

1: UK is the first school to have multiple first rounders in 5-straight drafts since it went to two rounds in 1989

Cats.

Kansas gets 2 of the top 3 last night. They should fire the coach for not winning it all.

Good post. I would like to see this compared to KU, Duke, UNC and Louisville.

I liked how on the NBA draft recap afterwards they recapped round 1, then discussed Kentucky’s team next season, then discussed round 2.
