I got so excited thought it was going to read UK announces uniform change! Why can’t they give the fans what they want? 95% of the fans want new uniforms without the checkerboards, wake up Mitch!!

I saw uniform and thought that as well. Granted it shouldn’t be about what the fans like, it should be what the player like, which would still be different uniforms with alternates.

With luck Cal may actually have enough guys who can play to survive injuries this year especially if Starr is eligible. He may have 10 or 11 looking at the roster.

It’s not what you wear, but how to wear it….or, clothes may make the man but uniforms don’t make good basketball players.

No one can make those things look good. The players don’t like them. I am sure we have lost recruits due to those ugly things. Uniforms are important to the players and the fans. Look how fired up the football team gets when they get new helmets or how they enjoy voting on which ones to wear. Don’t tell me it makes no difference!!!

First off, I don’t like the checkerboard either. That said, I doubt it has cost us any high level recruits. Look at Alabama football. Their uniforms aren’t winning any awards. Yet they still consistently get great players. When you’re at the top (UK basketball, Alabama football, etc…), uniforms aren’t and shouldn’t be part of the pitch. You’re offering much more than stylish uniforms to wear.

This isn’t a knock on UK football, I love their uniforms options. But that program is being built and isn’t on the level of UK basketball or Alabama football… yet. They can’t offer the same type of benefits yet (national TV every game, top 10 ranking, media exposure, etc…) so something like uniforms can come into play a little bit at that level.

No legitimate 5 star basketball player has ever told Cal that “everything sounds great, I think your program is the best fit for me. I think you are the best path to the NBA for me but, i just can’t wear that checkerboard. Sorry Coach.”

You don’t think Oregon’s uniforms had anything to do with their rise in football? As far as Alabama their uniforms are traditional like Penn State and Michigan. And yes top players do go to certain schools due to the uniforms!

Name one top player that publically said they chose their school because of the uniforms.

No one will ever choose a school “based on uniforms”. That’s not the point. The uniforms play a part in the whole package though. 18 yr old kids who are going into college in a culture where bright, new, and flashy style exists, will absolutely factor that into their decision. Maybe not heavily, but it is a fact that 18 yr old kids want to be cool. A top 50-100 kid may be ecstatic to get an offer from UK and it won’t be a huge factor, but a Top 5-10 kid who is getting courted by every top school will weigh everything in his decision. “Being cool” will factor in in some way in his mind, even if it’s subconsciously.

Notice Ben Jordan is missing. Has he gone back to baseball only? Even if Sarr is eligible we still need a big practice body. Without Sarr we probably need another big to buy a few minutes a game.
