Kentucky also moves up in the Coaches Poll

Kentucky moved up one spot in both polls this week. The Cats came in at No. 8 in the AP Poll, and moved up from No. 11 to No. 10 in the latest Coaches Poll.

Louisville is also the new No. 1 team in the Coaches Poll, followed by Virginia, Kansas, Maryland, and Michigan. Kentucky’s opponent in the CBS Sports Classic, Ohio State, is No. 6, followed by North Carolina, Duke, and Gonzaga. That makes for a seven-spot drop in the Coaches Poll for the Blue Devils following the loss to Stephen F. Austin to go along with a nine-spot drop in the AP Poll.

If these rankings hold (they probably won’t), Kentucky will play the No. 6 and No. 1 teams in the country in the span of one week. Hope they’re ready.

Why do we even have a coaches poll ?

Because they actually know what they are talking about. Unlike some Journalism majors who thought it would be a cool to geek out about their favorite teams and get paid for it.
I trust the Coaches Poll way more than the AP. AP Poll gets wadded up and thrown in the trash.

Too much bias in the coaches poll imo

UKlugo, actually a lot of folks say the coaches don’t even vote because they don’t have time to watch other teams outside of game tape of upcoming opponents. It’s like a local host where I live says, “It’s not even the coaches. It’s a bunch of George Costanza ‘Assistant to the Traveling Secretary’ types doing the voting”. Haha.

And all of this is true. I admit. But, I still believe there is way more bias from journalists and those Costanzas still know more about ball than your typical journalist. In addition, after those assistants fill out the poll, it goes to the head man (or woman) for final approval because their name is on it. The Head Coach makes any edits he or she wants before submitting it.
