Kelenna Azubuike is back on campus

During the Calipari Era, we’ve gotten used to players coming back to finish their degrees, but it’s not just Cal’s players returning to campus. According to Caitlyn Toon on Twitter, Kelenna Azubuike is back on campus taking classes:

Azubuike left for the NBA after his junior year in 2005 and spent five years in the league before a knee injury forced him to retire early. Kudos to him for coming back to finish his degree.

Remember when he used to do this?

Tubby’s “looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane” comment was one of the top ten comments ever uttered by a coach at Kentucky.

I remember watching him drop 30 on Auburn, I think. He had one dunk where he put his whole arm in the rim. Most exciting UK game I can remember seeing in person.

Great dunks, but this year’s team (mostly WCS) raised the bar so much that these seem normal. Glad to see him come back to school!

I think part of that video was his 16 points in eight minutes (I think that’s right) against Vandy. A tour de force performance.

Love seeing the players coming back to get their degrees and to support the program.

And thank you so much, Tubby, for keeping Azubuike on the bench because he was a freshman, and playing injured Bogans when he could barely walk, vs D. Wade and Marquette in the NCAA tourney. We win that game playing a healthy Buike instead of a star who couldn’t move. Glad Cal has a little different view on whether talented freshmen can play and contribute.

Barking up the wrong tree. We lost that game because Wade is Wade. Also because some scrub transfer from Mississippi State named Robert Jackson had 24 and 15 boards.

Kaz played 8 minutes. Shot 0-for-3, got two rebounds and a foul. A one legged Bogans had 15 points in 24 minutes… not to mention that you dance with them that brung you, bro. Keith is one of the top five scorers in school history. It was his team.

Sorry El Joe, but the reason we lost that game is because we were playing 4 on 5 defensively. We had one of the best defenses all year long until then when we were totally abused by Wade and company because we were playing with 4 guys. With a healthy Bogans or a healthy Azubuike in that 5th spot, Marquette does NOT execute well enough to beat us. One of many of Tubby’s very poor decisions…..(and Chuck Hayes still only has 4 fouls on him vs Michigan State…..Tubby is saving him in case he needs him!!)
