Keion Brooks is the only player on Kentucky’s roster that played significant minutes last season, but so far, he’s yet to take the practice court. This morning, John Calipari confirmed that Brooks suffered a leg injury and will be out “a couple more weeks.”
“He’s been hurt. He’s hurt his leg. I think he’s going to be out a couple more weeks so I’m literally on the court with all new guys. Every day I see him, I’m like, ‘How long?’ because we need him back.”
As a freshman, Brooks averaged 4.5 points and 3.2 rebounds in 15.1 minutes per game, which aren’t huge numbers, but as Calipari pointed out, his experience is invaluable.
“We need his leadership. We need his basketball sense. We need his knowledge of what these kids are going to face. You have Olivier [Sarr] and Davion [Mintz] and Keion would be vets. Everyone else, they think they know but they don’t. Keion is a big piece of what we do, but he has not practiced. I believe he’s going to be out a couple more weeks.”
