Karl Towns will not travel to Spain with the DR

karl towns dominican

Karl Towns will not travel to Spain with the Dominican Republic for the FIBA World Cup later this month, the DR announced on Twitter this afternoon. An official statement from the club says, “Karl Towns no podrá acompañar al equipo a España. Se conversó con la UK y no puede hacer el viaje. Más detalles en unos momentos.

Towns will still suit up for Coach Antigua and the boys tonight in New York against Team USA before returning to Lexington. That exhibition game is at 7 pm on NBA TV.

“Karl Towns may not accompany the team to Spain. He spoke to the UK and can not make the trip. More details in a few moments.”

If I remember right, “no podrá” translates more like “cannot” rather than “may not”. That’s a subtle difference, but it’s the difference between Towns being unable to go because of circumstances (“cannot”) and being told by the DR team that he is not allowed to go (“may not”)

well it does go on to say that “he spoke to the UK and can not make the trip” which would obviously suggest that UK is the reason he can’t go, not that the DR team told him he can’t.

Podra is the subjunctive form of poder—to be able. So, I translate it as “unable.”

Actually, pueda is the subjunctive of poder– podrá is the future. It can also mean “may” or “might,” so either way is correct.

Makes no sense for him to go to Spain and I don’t see the value in having him on the DR team for the game against the US, see Paul George injury. Karl’s future isn’t in playing international basketball.

Experience. Playing against AD and Boogie would really help him, even just once. When you play All-Star caliber NBA players, you learn.

also, while being a stickler for grammatical errors : He spoke to THE UK, would imply he’s getting his marching orders from the United Kingdom…

Whatever he does is fine with me. He is going to be so awesome this year and I would hate if he got hurt. GO CATS!
