Karl Towns is making the media rounds ahead of Thursday’s draft. This morning, Karl called in to “Mike and Mike” and “The Dan Patrick Show” and in both appearances, showed why he may be the best ambassador Kentucky basketball’s ever had. Patrick asked Karl what his first recruiting visit from John Calipari. Karl’s answer might as well be on a poster in the Joe Craft Center.
“The one thing he doesn’t have to recruit you on is how great the program is. Kentucky Wildcat basketball is one of a kind,” Karl said. “The school speaks for itself as one of the top academic schools and also a great university.”
Patrick asked Karl what school he would have picked had he not gone to Kentucky. The loyal Wildcat he is, Karl dodged the question three times, maintaining that he always wanted to UK.
“I don’t know, I can’t even think like that because I was so happy with my decision to go to Kentucky,” Karl said. “I never thought about it. When I picked a school, I never even had a backup plan.”
Karl admitted he’s a little stressed out this week and can’t wait until he finds out where he ends up so he can celebrate and eat ice cream. This is the second or third time Karl’s mentioned ice cream in the past few days, which tells me he’s having some serious cravings.
“I’m a cookies and cream guy,” Karl said in an interview with CBS Sports. “You know I love ice cream but I was mainly commenting about the stress related to the Draft. It is going to be cool when Thursday comes around and I can finally know what team I will be playing for.”
On Thursday, we will all eat cookies and cream in your honor, Karl.
