Karl Towns on the Towns vs. Okafor debate

During a fake episode of Kentucky Sports Radio for HBO’s cameras, Matt asked Karl Towns if he believes he should be the first overall pick in next month’s NBA Draft. Towns, being the good sport he is, would not pick himself over his good friend, Jahlil Okafor

I’m just going to be blessed to have the opportunity to play in the NBA,” he told KSR. “I just want the opportunity to play there, it doesn’t matter where (I get picked).”

Towns believes he will be able to contribute right away, no matter where he goes in the league. He said, “I’m very confident in myself. I played two seasons professionally already, and if you count this season (at Kentucky), it’s three.”

Anybody wanna bet the “I played professionally… if you count this season, it’s 3” line comes back to haunt us? Haters gonna hate.

I agree… what is he talking about two seasons played already anyway?

He was talking about the Dominican Republic team.

Yea. Obviously he was cleared to play, and his involvement with the DR Nat’l team did nothing to hurt his eligibility, but it still just sounds like something rival fanbases will pounce on. Karl is smart, though; he usually knows what to say and how to handle himself. This is nothing; just sounds bad on the surface.
