Kansas Brings Snoop Dogg, Stripper Poles and a Money Gun to Midnight Madness

@Jeff_Ermann

There are two ways to respond to rule-breaking allegations. You can decide to lay low, comply and embrace a straight-edge lifestyle to prevent any further damage, or you could deny any rule-breaking whatsoever and become defiant. Kansas chose the latter in the most over-the-top way imaginable.

Less than two weeks ago Kansas was charged with three Level I NCAA violations, including the infamous “lack of institution control” charge. The charges stem from Kansas’ relationship with Adidas and how the shoe company used money to help Bill Self land recruits. Four days later, Self wore a t-shirt with a massive Adidas logo to promote Snoop Dogg’s appearance at Midnight Madness. That retaliation was just a small sample for what Kansas had to show off Friday night at Phog Allen Fieldhouse.

The mascot got in on the phone, smoking an enormous fake blunt during the performance.

@RRhineheart2012

To accompany the stripper poles, gin and juice, the D-O Double-G fired off a money gun into the crowd.

Instead of playing their hand close to the vest, Kansas brought Minardi Hall to Phog Allen.

“I didn’t know that there was going to be anything like that,” Self back-peddled after the event ended. “I was told this was radio edited and everything else. But no, that’s not the direction that anybody at our school would want that to go at all.”

“We apologize for the Snoop Dogg performance at Late Night,” athletic director Jeff Long said in a statement. “We made it clear to the entertainers’ managers that we expected a clean version of the show and took additional steps to communicate to our fans, including moving the artist to the final act of the evening, to ensure that no basketball activities would be missed if anyone did not want to stay for his show. I take full responsibility for not understanding what acrobatic dancers are in today’s entertainment and offer my personal apology to those who were offended. We strive to create a family atmosphere at Kansas and fell short of that this evening.”

Long actually had to release an additional statement, editing the “acrobatic dancers” line after the internet pointed and laughed for hours.

The Kansas administration is trying to distance itself from the event, but they may actually be on to something. Georgia Tech received a postseason ban for taking a recruit to a strip club on an official visit. You can’t provide recruits impermissible benefits if they just so happen to see strippers at the gym.

    This is Unfreaking Believable. In response, the NCAA will undoubtedly clear KU of all allegations..

    Wow. After being hit with multiple Level 1 infractions KU walks right up to Mark Emmert and pees on his shoes. Perhaps the most arrogant (or idiotic) response in NCAA history.

      Wow/-/ I always liked Jeff Long when he was at Ky, but if his job was not already on the line, this likely pushed it over the brink, especially now that the Gayhawks will be searching for a scapegoat to save Self’s job !

    During the performance Snoop uses the f word multiple times ( there are 7 year olds in the stands) the Jayhawks mascot is smoking a fake blunt, and they shoot money into the players section. There are 4 strippers hanging from poles wearing next to nothing. A huge F U from Bill Self to the NCAA.

      To be fair, if you have your 7 yo in the stands at a Snoop show, no matter what false pretenses there are, that’s on you. If you take your kid to say, a Marilyn Manson show, even if he swears and promises not to have lewd acts on stage, he’s gonna have lewd acts on stage. And more power to him too. It’s not the job if entertainers to governed their style to be more wholesome for children and easily offended people.

      It was the Reagan administration who fired Charlotte Iserbyt who wrote “The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America”. served as the senior policy advisor in the Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI), U.S. Department of Education, during the first term of U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

      Iserbyt later came across a federally-funded grant entitled Better Education Skills through Technology (Project BEST), part of which was headed “What we (U.S. Dept. of Education) can control and manipulate at the local level”. After leaking this document to Human Events, she was removed from her post in the Department of Education.

      So it was the Republicans who started the decline, not that one party is better or worse than the other and if you think so you need to put down the crack pipe.

      Bluehender they are all liars, cheats and thieves, having two parties gives the illusion that we have a choice but we really don’t. When it’s all said and done the agenda’s the same no matter who is in office, a one world government. Bush senior talked about as did many others, it’s been in the works for decades now and it’s coming, so the best thing we can all do is stay united.

    This has to be a statement to the NCAA in some way. I’m not sure how it’s intended, but I have to believe in a back room on the KU campus somewhere several people area having a good laugh. I say that because there is NO FREAKING WAY that KU officials didn’t know that this is the product they were purchasing.

    FWIW, the money cannon supposedly shot fake Snoop money.

    The rest of it is just a straight finger to the NCAA though.

    I am thinking that the “money gun” was aimed at recruits. Speaking of which, recruits may be impressed with the Midnight Madness show (or not), but they will focus on the NCAA probe and stay clear of Kansas. The show itself was, at a minimum, tone deaf.

    WOW! WOW! Maybe if the “acrobatic dancers” had worn clown suits and sneakers instead of hot pants, tank tops and platform stiletto heels and they were actually performing ACROBATICS and Snoop Dog had been shooting t-shirts at the recruits instead of Snoop bucks and the mascot had been sucking on a lollipop instead of a big joint then MAYBE it could have passed as a family friendly show. THIS however was nothing but a finger to the NCAA!
    I don’t believe for a second the AD and coach had no idea what type of show Adidas paid for!
