Jurich says Pitino has no plans to step down

pitino-cal_crop_650x440

The big question on everyone’s mind right now is whether or not Rick Pitino will step down following ESPN’s investigation into the prostitution scandal at Louisville. After five former players and recruits confirmed they attended stripper parties in Billy Minardi Hall and one confirmed he had sex with a dancer after Andre McGee paid her, it even seemed the question was more when Pitino would resign, not if he would resign.

Well, he’s not going anywhere voluntarily. According to Andy Katz, Louisville AD Tom Jurich released this statement via the school: “Coach Pitino has no plans to step down and he absolutely didn’t know about the allegations.”

Of course. Pitino’s ego would never let him resign. Look, I doubt that Pitino knew what was going on in Minardi Hall, but as many have pointed out this morning, that doesn’t matter. It happened under his watch. Would fans and media be so willing to give John Calipari the same pass if it happened at Kentucky? I think not.

No, and he wouldn’t deserve a pass. It’s a case of “if he didn’t know, he SHOULD have known”. Which is WORSE actually than if he did know!

If he isn’t forced to resign, then the University of Louisville is just continuing their proud tradition of reinforcing terrible behavior by staff and students, and apparently, potential students as well. I dislike Pitino as much as the next UK fan, but I am genuinely sad for him because I don’t believe that he knew this was going on. However, Cal or even Coach Kryshahdaiwski would not have been given the same lax treatment from the media or fans as UL. The NCAA would have already handed down the death penalty, rescinded all our titles, wins, you name it, if this had been Cal and UK. Somebody step up and make these people accountable!

Amen Allison! If it had been UK the death penalty would already have been handed down by this point! Afraid that this will go on at the same speed as the investigation for North Carolina, which is as inexplicable for the school as well as the NCAA

And that’s ok, Mary. Until this has been resolved, recruiting elite players is done.Pitino won’t be able to sign kids out of the YMCA leagues. They will quickly become one of the worst programs in the NCAA. And at THAT point, the fans will begin to demand a change.

He’s getting paid millions of dollars to oversee the team. So they slipped in a 4-year long prostitution ring under his nose and that’s okay with those paying him millions? Interesting. If I were in charge of a company and my employees were busted for doing illegal things, no way in hell I’d get to keep my job.

He’s a scumbag and he’s done. If he had the tiniest shred of integrity he would resign today and let the school begin the rebuilding process. I genuinely don’t understand why fans aren’t calling for him to take responsibility for the program he set the tone for and get out of the way and let them start over.

The fans know what is awaiting them when he does step down. I don’t think they are real eager to start the rebuilding process for the next 4-6 years. No decent coach is going to touch that program for a while. No one wants to tarnish their image with the nasty left behind.

In Jurich’s mind, there’s nothing wrong here. Both Pitino and Petrino are guilty of worse personally and have his full support. Just SOP within a soiled program. They deserve every bit of media hell they will be going through……and that won’t even cover the whole story.

This scandal also effectively eliminates Jurich as a candidate at Texas. At best, he might be able to save his current job, but even that is very iffy.

Interesting that he didn’t comment on his own status. For as much as Pitino is and should be on the hot seat, so should Jurich. This will only get worse as more and more facts come to light that are subsequently confirmed by eye witness accounts. Good luck saving your coach Tom but the University should be asking you to pack up your things as well.

Do you really think that the media would not give Coach Cal of Coach K the same treatment? The media holds both of them so high and they could do no wrong. I don’t think Pitino is getting a pass, they are just not rushing to prove guilt. Guilty until proven innocent in this world these days.

    • Booby Petrino
      11:28 am October 20, 2015 Permalink

Oh hell no Cal wouldn’t get the same treatment. Cal would be raked over the coals, and all we’d hear is “cheater, cheatter, cheater.” There would be demands of his resignation from around the country, not just Louisville fans. Coach K…I’m sure he’d get the softer gloves like ol Ricky is getting.

    • Booby Petrino
      11:30 am October 20, 2015 Permalink

and guilty or innocent doesn’t matter here. Doesn’t matter if Pitino knew or not, it happened on his watch. He probably didn’t know it was happening, but as the leader of the team it is his responsibility to know that a stripper/prostitution ring is going on with his players, his employees, and in a dorm named after his family.

Ugh, isn’t there a way to block all these Louisville trolls? Technology is so advanced now…….The media HATES, LOATHES, DESPISES Cal. Anyone who says otherwise must be living on another planet.

    • LawDog

There is a way to block the trolls, or at least make them register to comment which does slow the trolls down, but KSR doesn’t want to do it. They did it for a while and the comments went way down in numbers, which I’m sure affects advertising on the site. Trolls are too dumb to realize their trolling keeps KSR successful.

Both of these ego-maniacs think they are way above any rules and will never step down. It would take the university president or chancellor firing them for either Jurich or Pitino to go. I’d say both could probably be fired for cause, avoiding the need to pay them out for their contracts.

Of course, I doubt UofLol’s president has any more character or respect for society than everyone in the athletics department, so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Hey Fred, sorry for your apparent lack of understanding here. But as a UK fan who lives in Louisville, who has watched these guys rape the taxpayer, watched as they escaped the possible Death Penalty on a technicality, watched Jurich turn his head at scandalous indiscretions by his Bball HC which made the institution an even bigger laughing stock, hired yet another HC who flat out misappropriated University of Arkansas funds and lied about it, layered up with the absolute worst trash to defend them from the financial payola scandal (Strohm)…..all the while getting UK and “Cal’s a cheater” shoved up my hind quarters…..I can say I’m having more than a little fun with this.
Yea, it’s bad, and yea I feel bad for RIck. But the average UofL fan living in Louisville is a heapin pile of ignorance and hate all wrapped up in one. I for one am glad to see some of them finally getting their due.
Any program whose coaches are paying for the services of prostitutes to sway recruits deserves whatever bad PR and whatever hate their advisories can throw at them. As well, those individuals in charge of such a program should be removed from College Athletics. If you don’t like what you’re reading here…then don’t read it.

You know they all believe in the end nothing is gonna happen to them, cause it never does! How many times have they been busted before? Plenty!! How many times have they gotten in serious trouble? None. They’re probably on the look out right now, for some new party girls! You think ole Roy at UNC is making his boys get a legit education now? That’s funny. They putting them through some new classes. Nothing will change. If this was honestly some “rogue” low-level assistant coach, keeping it hush hush from? For FOUR YEARS?! Hate to say it but I think UK fans should be the most sympathetic. Rick will pay but cal himself got in trouble at both schools prior to uk. Nothing as insane as prostitution but he was linked to impropriety under his administration so to speak. We’ve defended him up and down as we should–nothing was proven against him. Granted this is a much worse violation but I don’t think we should be laughing while Pitino burns. It’s not an excuse either, but were quick to forgive and forget Cals past allegations. We should give him a break–more of a break than what were doing.

Um…NO…these things aren’t comparable. Prostitution for recruits is not the same thing as a player getting someone to take his ACT for him and another player accepting cash. Pitino already had his break when he knocked up Sypher and paid her bribes until the price got too high, then ratter her out like a snitch, and kept his job.
