After five long years with the team, Jon Hood finally said his goodbyes today on twitter. Here is what Jon had to say:

I leave this great university in less than a week for good. It has meant the most to me over the past 5 years. Given me so many memories. I’ve met and played with some of the greatest people on this planet. My brothers are not just great ball players but great people And my friends that I have met off the court, all of you have made a lasting impression and impact on my life. Thank you all so much. The fans of this crazy program are the craziest and best in the world, I signed a toilet seat cover…y’all are nuts. #BBN. Ending my sappy goodbyes. I love UK and couldn’t be happier about the relationships I formed and what we accomplished as a team over 5 years.

This is almost enough to bring a tear to your eye. Thanks for a great 5 years, Jon! We wish you luck in your future.

Cal only likes playing the thug life players. Hood could have played for any other team in the country. Too bad Cal only likes the bloods and crips.

If Hood had a set on him, he would have gone to another school and proved he was good enough to play. Bit was quite obvious Cal wasn’t going to give him a fair shot. Instead, Hood just sat on the bench like a dope and took it.

Instead, I chose to practice with 17 NBA players (and counting) rather than a glorified KHSAA roster had I gone elsewhere.

“Reality”, you always manage to post the most absurd things indicating you have no concept of reality. Going somewhere else to “prove he could play” vs. just having experienced what he did the past 5 years as a player on the team of his dreams? Are you clueless or what?

      Get lost, troll.

    Really people?

Not one “thanks for the memories” or ” I know you didn’t play a ton, but you brought it every day in practice and we appreciate it”? Not to mention that he’s a likeable kid, was in no trouble off the court, and has his diploma to show for his time and effort?

Thanks, Jon. I, for one, appreciate everything you sacrificed for the team, and appreciate the mentor role you embraced this past year.

Thank you to all the posters above. I usually stay out of the comment sections. Now I remember why. Gracias.

Please take a moment UK basketball fans and acknowledge Mr Jon Hood, as it’s the end of the Gillispie era. Jon and Darius were among the centerpieces of BG’s recruitment efforts, Darius is in the league and Jon tore up an ACL, but here he is, still balling, still first on the court for warmups at games, and then the season ended, along with a fantastic college career. I wish him well on the international circuit and if miracles happen we could see him in the States again.

    Just a few thoughts:
    1) After five years I would expect fans to know his name is J-O-N. Same goes for Randle. Too much to ask?
    2) If I tear my ACL I’m on the couch for 6 months. Jon however is an athlete, and came back … and played, and practiced and did everything he could do to help the team succeed.
    3) Why did it take so long for KENTUCKY sports radio to make amends with a guy who grew up in Kentucky? Don’t expect Mark Stoops to say stay home and be a hero if this is what you’re going to get.

Good Luck Jon, We’ll miss you.

thank god he is is gone… more annoying questions from people in southern Kentucky asking Matt, “you think Jon Hood will get some playing time this season?”

    • Chris
      11:11 am May 4, 2014 Permalink

Jon u will be missed and are a class act!! ALthough the above post looks like a troll he may not be!! Because KSR is responsible for a lot of the Jon Hood hate like the above idiot!!! When UK was struggling last year and in the regular season this year , people wanted to see Jon Hood play!! Which was totally fair seeing as we were struggling mightily !!! But instead of articulating in a positive way why Matt thought Hood was not seeing the floor , Matt was extremely disrespectful to Jon Hood !! So instead of answering questions as a professional , Matt got annoyed ( as usual) and just very harshly bashed Jon Hood !! Hood is a great kid and at times during bad struggles probably could have played a little more!! But idiots like Wall2Cousins might have gotten the bash Jon Hood stuff from Matt!!!!

Did anyone else see Hood on the CBS broadcast of this years NCAA tourney, saying that he hated Coach Cal the first 3 1/2 years he was at UK? Why did he play on a team that he hated the coach for that long?

You are adding a little bit to, and taking a lot away, from what he actually said.

Dee W., I am adding nothing, he said on CBS “he hated Coach Cal the first 3 1/2 years he was at UK”, it is on tape.
