John Robic says he’s unable to comment on the Derek Willis situation

derek-willis

John Robic filled in for John Calipari on this morning’s SEC Coaches Summer Teleconference, one of the first media opportunities since Derek Willis’ arrest for public intoxication. Robic was asked about Willis’ status on the team, but told reporters he was unable to comment on it at this time.

“I really can’t comment on that at this time,” Robic said.

Jerry Tipton tried another angle, asking Robic if the staff will use Derek’s incident as a lesson for players on what can happen when someone makes a mistake in the social media age.

“I really can’t comment on that right now,” Robic said. “The only thing I will say is we educate our players to the best of our ability and that’s something we take a lot of pride in. Hopefully the guys will listen and learn.”

You would have to think at some point, John Calipari will release a statement about the situation. Until then, we’ll keep waiting…

Shock! Tipton trying to stir things up so he’ll have something negative on Cal.

Reading between the lines with this story and the other about Willis working hard, I’d say Cal is making him earn his place by showing that he can clean up his act, but as with Liggins before, Cal sees no reason for us to have the details.

Most reasonable people agree with this MTT. It’s been over 2 weeks.
