Graduation begins tomorrow morning at the University of Kentucky, and like most parents preparing to see their children walk across that stage and receive their diploma, John Calipari is getting a bit in his feelings about his son Brad’s big moment.
This evening, the Kentucky head coach released a post on CoachCal.com about his “baby son” graduating and how proud he is of him for achieving this milestone.
For me as a father, to be able to be with my son the last three years, to have him in every practice, to watch him play in games, to travel with him across the country, has been a true blessing. The profession I’m in takes you away from your family, but this has brought us together. My hope is that the lessons he’s learned by being part of our program, which is about A CULTURE, are as valuable as what he’s learned in the classroom.
As a father, if I had a choice, there’s no other young man I’d want to be my son other than Brad. With graduation on the horizon, he has his entire future ahead of him. We don’t know the turns or how fate will intervene. We don’t know how Brad’s story will end. I do know though that he prepared to write his own story and be his own man. Most people know Brad as John Calipari‘s son. I can’t wait until the day when the world knows me as John, Brad Calipari’s father.
After the post, Calipari also congratulated former Kentucky walk-on Jonny David on, along with the UK basketball managers on graduating, as well.
“I also want to congratulate Jonny David who will graduate on Sunday with a degree in kinesiology,” he said. “He and I sat down today and talked about his future. He’s headed to physical therapy school in June at the University of Pittsburgh. I’m so excited for him. An unbelievable kid.
“I also want to congratulate our four senior managers. Randy Gregory and Johnny Moran will graduate this weekend. Robert Vent walked in December and Michael Boorman will graduate in the fall. Congratulations to all four of them and thank you for all you’ve done for our program!”
