John Calipari writes about Larry Brown’s resignation and return

In case you missed, Larry Brown stepped down as head coach of SMU earlier today. It’s reported his resignation came because the school would not give him a long-term deal, though Brown refused comment to ESPN.

John Calipari, who considers Brown his mentor, wrote about the legendary head coach in a post on his website this afternoon. He predicts Brown will continue working, likely somewhere within an NBA franchise.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that he still has gas left in the tank, Cal wrote. “My guess is his next stop will be with an NBA franchise in some capacity.

Cal also had a lot to share about Brown’s long career and the impact Brown had on his own life and coaching journey.

One of the funniest Cal stories is after he was fired from the Nets, Brown hired him as an assistant coach for the 76rs. When Philly later played the Nets, Brown got ejected intentionally and Cal took over and the Nets won. Because of the contract, NJ was still paying Cal. So they ended up paying him to beat them. Haha

i have heard that Robic only signs one year contracts instead of the standard two years. Each year he says is his last. I was told that he and Cal don’t really get along, they only have a professional relationship, but they both know what they have is a good thing.
