John Calipari was a special guest speaker at the Southern Legislative Conference in Lexington earlier today and the subject of race relations came up during the Q&A session after his talk.
Cal was asked by a state rep about the divide between law enforcement and minorities, and what can be done to bring both sides together after the tragic events that occurred around our nation last week.
The Herald-Leader has video of Calipari’s response to the race relations question:
Among his comments, Calipari recounted times he witnessed prejudice behavior firsthand while traveling with his assistant coaches. “I’ve been there,” he told SLC attendees. “We have issues.”
Cal also said, “Right now, I feel for our officers. Every officer I see, I look at them and say ‘be safe.’”
