John Calipari used today’s pre-Asbury press conference as a platform to push his team’s upcoming trip to the Bahamas to play Arizona State, which I assume isn’t doing too well in ticket sales.
Without being asked about the Bahamas, Arizona State or family vacationing, Cal told us, “I want you guys to get the word out on this because the stuff is going good, but I would like this Bahamas stuff to be a family trip. In other words, we’re going to have open practice. So, we have 2,000-3,000 people down there we’re going to have an open practice, do some stuff with the fans, try to have some sort of get together where we can really — where it’s an experience, where you get as close to this team.”
Cal made sure to say fans won’t get near his team in Las Vegas or on either of the two trips to New York City.
He also said, “We’re playing Arizona State. It’s not like we’re playing a team that’s not good. They’re a good team… What I’m hoping is bring your kids. Let’s make this a terrific weekend. You’re on the island. You’re in a great venue and setup… This is going to be THE trip.”
All I heard in all that was, “Atlantis is panicking because numbers are way down, three weeks before the trip.”
