John Calipari closing in on coaching milestone

With the Cats riding a seven-game winning streak and a month and a half until the NCAA Tournament, there’s a lot to look forward to with Kentucky Basketball right now, including a coaching milestone for John Calipari that’s fast approaching.

With 292 wins during his 10-year tenure in Lexington, Calipari is only FIVE wins away from tying Joe B. Hall for the second-most victories by a head coach in program history. Of course, Adolph Rupp has the most, at 876.

1925-26 Ray Eklund 15–3 0.833
1924-25 Clarence Applegran 13-8 0.619
1911-12 Edwin Sweetland (2nd time) 9-0 1
1917-18 Stanley A. Boles 9-2 0.792
1915-16 James Park 8-6 0.571

1912-13 John J. Tigert 5-3 0.625
1916-17 W. P. Tuttle 4-6 0.4
1909-10 Edwin Sweetland/R. E. Spahr 4-8 0.333
1926-27 Basil Hayden 3–13 0.187

Five games from now, Kentucky hosts No. 1 Tennessee at Rupp Arena. If the Cats take care of business between now and then, a big game could get even bigger.

Looking at this list, only Coach Sweetland would be able to satisfy some of our fans. 🙂 (1.00 winning percentage)

    • His 2nd tenure only. I guess he learned a lot in the intervening year. Ha!

yeah BoB still thinks one title is grounds for firing Cal. So irrational.

That’s because BoB is a douche.

You’re giving douche’s around the world a bad rap by calling BigoldSlaterMedic a douche. Seriously he’s way below a douche.

Math nerd here, but I think Cal’s win percentage is more like 81%, not 77%. Just trying to give my man proper credit!

Passing thought… yeah, Tubbys coaching name needs to be in the rafters. Another example.

What Cal does year in and year out has been truly remarkable… Especially in this era of basketball… I mean the turnover in all of college basketball is so much greater now… For all teams but ours so much more… Coaches like Cal are truly taken for granted and not truly appreciated until they are gone…

Pretty crazy when you look at Cal and Tubby and realize that in the same span of time, Cal has already won 29 more games than Tubby. Could be 40+ by the time the season ends. That’s UNREAL!

Tell that to bigolblue, mashburnfan, nomoreexcusescal, and ukprof. Those idiots think Cal and UK suck at life.

Love him or hate him, Pitino was dominant here. Calipari is incredible in his own right. Big game tomorrow. NEED IT
