John Calipari calls on the BBN to rally behind this team

Lost in the shuffle of Super Bowl Sunday was a series of tweets from John Calipari in the wake of Kentucky’s disappointing loss at Missouri. Calipari and his staff reportedly stayed in the office watching tape late into the night after getting back from Columbia, and after some time mourning with his dogs, he took to Twitter to call upon the Big Blue Nation for their support ahead of tomorrow night’s huge game vs. No. 18 Tennessee.

“BBN, I’m trying to do everything in my power to help this young team come together. I’ll be honest, after being in the office last night and again this morning watching tape, we played well enough defensively to win that game forcing 20 turnovers. These are good kids who are just understanding how bad they need each other. They’re just so young, but we’re going to get this.

We need you Tuesday to be at your best from the tip to the finish. If we’re going good, ride it and push us to make the lead unbearable. If we’re struggling some, encourage us and bring us back. The last eight minutes of the game, do not sit down! We need you more than ever now!

To our students, let’s pack the place. We need your help. Student tickets are still available by going to the UK ticket office starting at 9 a.m. on Monday.”

Saturday was incredibly frustrating, but with a month left in the regular season, there’s still time for them to work out the kinks, starting with a monster showdown with the Vols tomorrow night. If you’re going to Rupp, heed Calipari’s call and stand up for the final eight minutes, or better yet, the entire game.

Is KSR getting paid to show the Hammer video? I assume so … you have had it at the top of the page 5 or 6 times now. This is terrible.

And yes, we should rally around this team, like we do with all CATS teams!

Cal is right. This team needs the fans to encourage as much confidence as possible.

Cal has asked for the fans to stand for the final 8 minutes before. I think this should be an every game thing- “the standing 8 count “. Everyone stands once the game clock hits 8:00, regardless of opponent or score.

How about I stand for the 1st 8 picks of the NBA draft, that is what matters at UK and to Cal, how many picks we get and not titles.

4everUKblue; why mince words, idiots AND morons like this guy and others like him are ruining the teams and recruiting. The comments after a loss are shameful.
Players and recruits see this stuff; and why is recruiting suffering? What parent would want their 18 year old subjected to the crap we see on here after every loss?
Idiots and morons with keyboards are ruining our fanbase.

BBN will not waiver, Rupp will be filled to the rim, and Rupp on big game day is special. So, coach Cal should not worry about that. Now Coach Cal, BBN is asking for a quality product on the court. We don’t even require a win, but quality effort is expected. BBN will deliver, will you?

Good luck Cal getting that from the Rupp crowd. Most of them aren’t the true fans of Kentucky basketball. You will find those at the SEC tournament and at away games. Rupp is just a terrible place to watch a basketball game, and the crowd has been pitiful for the last few years. 23k+ shouldn’t sound like a church most games. On the other hand, the Missouri crowd was loud from start to finish on Saturday.

BBN fell off hard. Rupp Arena needs some sort of change because it’s possibly the worst home court advantage in college basketball. Need to get the students in the lower section not the social security folks!

I saw Wenyen,Sha,Jarred playing their hearts out, while a few players were standing and watching on both ends. One player does more crying to the refs than playing 40 min.

All the fan support in the world won’t do as much as a few games sitting on the bench Coach.

Fair weather fans demand so much from this team. Social media has given people a license to be nasty and rude. Most of these people would not say the things they spew to Cals or the players face. These guys are human and not perfect. How about those fans stand up and act like real fans, give all your support to your team. Show up, get loud, and show these young cats that we have their backs! Would you turn your back on your family in their time of need? Get up and stand strong for this team. Be the 8 minute factor! GO CATS!

Agreed. Does anyone think the other elite programs have to kind of fair weather fans we have. I bet dUKe fans are not jumping ship after losing to an unranked team on an 11 game losing streak, while having the numero uno recruiting class. Kansas has lost 3 home games already this season. Do you think their fans are losing their minds?

Fans can only do so much ultimately it’s up to the players to make shots, pass the ball, make free throws, stay healthy and stop with the unforced turnovers.

So far that’s been iffy at best.

Coach Cal wouldn’t be asking for this if he didn’t think it would help. So what if a young team needs some extra support and encouragement to win some games? Let’s be the great CATS fans that we are and give it to them.

I heard on KSR a comparison between Alabama football and U.K. basketball fan bases. People get upset with Saban when they loose. This is true. They also get upset with Saban if he doesn’t win with top rated recruiting classes. He is paid millions to win NC not put players in the NFL. So, it’s not inconceivable that U.K. fans see their coach paid millions, land top recruiting classes and play this bad, and they are upset. Then the U.K. coach says we are a players first program, in other words…..if the win a NC good, but we need to make sure our players are first round draft picks that will change their lives. In my opinion there is no accountability on the players. That is why they stand around and watch 2-3 others play. Until there is accountability, we will not see a difference in how they play.

Every once and a while you will get a Ben Simmons type player but Cal hasn’t had many. I think all these guys want to win. There is just so many good players out there today. You have to get players to stay that are not starting and we have lost a few good ones in the last few years. GO CATS

In case you haven’t heard, this team is young!
No, they’ve practiced together for months and played 23 regular season games together. They are NOT young basketball players anymore. In age yes, in basketball, that just doesn’t fly anymore.
We have some guys with low basketball IQ’s, some selfish guys, a couple of guys that refuse to mix it up physically, and one guy who can’t are won’t listen. Players from the past aren’t walking through the door.
I have season tickets in the lower level and I can flat tell you that other than my wife and I and few others, these people are not going to stand for 8 minutes. It’s sad, but it’s not happening.

All this is fine and I love Cal. The problem is we always have a young team and it seems not to matter how well they do as a team or even individually in a given year as to how much of our team enters the draft simply because the NBA drafts on potential. I know the stress on Cal to start over and teach basketball 101 to children must be exhausting. I just wonder if there needs to be a more honest discussion with some of these kids as to whether they are ready to go play professionally. Also, I am sure more than a couple of our better players has actually wanted to return. They have it made and have a chance to really do something special the next year. What about the wear and tear on the body playing in the NBA or G League against men vs. 30 college games? It would not make a difference if they start their professional life at 20 vs 19. As for fans in the lower bowl standing that will not happen. We are unique in that we are the only game in town. People inherit these tix. The average age must be over 60 down there. The standard pose in Rupp on the lower level is arms crossed over the chest glaring at the court. I love Cal. It just feels strange when you see guys playing less than impressively for most of their first season and knowing you will still lose 3 to 4 of them. It is very odd.
